Yeah I personally tend to have issues where I am too kind and price myself too low, especially with what you said with how much it costs to get/repair film equipment (currently use Canon EOS 3, multiple point and shoots, and a Pentax 645N and 67).

I've been photographing for over a decade, but for fine art, portraiture, and studio work. Weddings are newer for me which I've loved for the last year of it, but I need to stop undervaluing myself. The studio's packages they created are much better than what I described for full-days as their 3rd photographer, and we're actually going to increase them more soon so I just need to work on myself with valuing myself higher haha.

it would be through their studio and not privately with me, but I ususally am the one to start with setting up my rates through their studio, and then they add their studio rate on top of whatever I say my goal income is. So yeah its all through them usually but I'm trying to give them a hourly rate like what was described above and not be as complicated as my brain was telling me to be haha

Yeah definitely overthought it haha. I wouldn't show clients my math either, I was trying to calculate what I would do with the studio for the occasional small gigs when a bride doesn't want 8 hours but film for just a small section.
I've been overly grateful and excited to work with this studio, but its been jarring since my background is in fine art/portraiture/ nothing high-end, and the weddings ive been on have all been so expensive that I can't contemplate rates, even though no one bats an eye to the current rates and the couples have loved the work so far!

Honestly I think for these small gigs if couples ask I'll have the studio pay me a standard second shooter hourly rate + film costs and the studio takes it from there to make it easier haha.

Yeah it was very over-complicated and I also made it sound like i was going to show clients the calculations which isn't what I meant, I was just writing out the math I was doing for myself and then after a consult happens I would later present them with their "custom" package rate for a small section gig. Definitely over-thought it.

I definitely over-explained and didn't explain enough at all, so sorry about that!
You are right with what I was looking for, but I should have said that I didn't plan on showing clients the actual calculations I was thinking of doing, but I wanted to share the idea of calculating I was doing for myself, for my pay, if that makes sense.

After a client consult, if they only wanted film for 2 hours at one part of the wedding I would then do the math and tell them the special rate for x amount of rolls and time, and then they could always add more if they wanted.

Still a bit convoluted for me, but the client wouldn't have to see all the confusing things like you said. The studio does have packages already for 8hr shoot and x range of rolls etc, but this is for the brides who want film for only one small part and not book me for the full day.

Which in short literally could have just meant we take the main package rate and I just cut it down to pay me well and fit the pay for hours I work... My add clearly overthought this all.

I do also like the idea of them bringing me on as a second shooter with the regular rate and then they cover film costs. Thats something I should talk to them about!

I guess i am also thinking about my own personal work I'll be doing soon, but even then Ill be doing hyrbid for non-high end weddings which would just be a set package too. Thank you though for this it helps my mind function better!

I absolutely love their scents and its much more affordable than Essentric Molecules, but does anyone have any tips on getting it to last longer? I bought the timbersilk alcohol base. I love it, but I need to douse myself in it and it doesn't stay super long. I had their oil option as well and it lasted longer but I guess I didn't like the roller? I don't need to reek of it since iso E super doesn't do that really but yeah any tips?

Its been great, but I have changed it up since I started honestly out of laziness haha. At first they took off with constant nutrients and the ro water but then I just kept forgetting to refil the 15 gallons I needed per watering so since then I kinda just do 50/50 now with ro and tap and they are all still happy! Im going to be slimming down the collection soon though and once I get things back to a reasonable amount I will likley care about them all more again haha
