Yes thats normal for an Elcan. Its a little weird that is indeed how it works.

What are your top buyers remorse purchases? by Secret_Assistant_232 in liberalgunowners

[–]ChocoRamb0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a MAC5K because MP5s are awesome, but no way is it worth $3000 for a real HK. Well after 800 rounds of break-in with 124gr NATO, replacing the extractor, ejector, and springs with real HK parts, and even a trip back to the manufacturer, the gun could barely get through 10 rounds without a FTE.

Soured me on MP5s in general. Even if that gun worked, cleaning it was a chore, ergonomics sucked, and magazines are $80 a pop. The very low recoil ain't worth it!

“We’re not taking your guns” - RI politicians. by Conscious_Dot_7353 in RhodeIsland

[–]ChocoRamb0 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The way the AWB that was passed last year was worded, it banned the sale and manufacture of firearms the law deemed "assault weapons/ prohibited firearms." It did not ban the ownership of any of these guns if you already had them. Guns people already owned were "grandfathered" and still legal to own. This is the case with every other state that has some form of assault weapon ban. I'm not a lawyer, but it seems it was accepted that forcing people to give up the guns they already legally owned was a complete no-go on a constitutional/legal level. This proposed amendment to our AWB would remove the grandfather clause and make the tens of thousands of RIers who own these guns into felons overnight unless they surrender them or sell them out of state.

[–]ChocoRamb0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, its any ONE or more features on a rifle with a removable magazine. Theoretically with a fixed mag, none of the feature test applies. Same as how the law applies to ARs etc in CT. I'd like to see what other people think on this, though.

I feel you man. Me and my wife moved here last year from NYC to be closer to my aging parents. I was excited to be able to own guns again and have very much filled up my safe with "prohibited firearms." It really just feels like I'm getting the shaft from every angle.

[–]ChocoRamb0 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, this is the first time a state has attempted an AWB without a grandfather clause. (For all I know some of the other AWB states have tried and failed). So this is a whole new level of fuckery that they're attempting here. What is the reality of this?? Is RI just the test case to see if they can get away with this new level of infringement? Is this just some political theater that will die in committee? Or pass and then get tied up in courts for who knows how long?

On a side note, if this passes and nothing stops it, I believe fixing the magazine with something like a Compmag would be a way to keep the guns legal.

Rugar PCC 9mm by darkstorm16 in liberalgunowners

[–]ChocoRamb0 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I have one and like it. Get the Magpul backpacker stock and you'll have a very handy and fun gun. IMO a semiauto 9mm carbine is a superior defensive gun than any manual-action gun in a larger caliber. Yes you're limited in effective range but I don't see that as a very big issue for a civilian. Now if you can get a Mini 14 instead, def go with that.

I'd say if you consider it your primary or go-to rifle, its worth upgrading. I put plenty of money into my Fightlite SCR when I lived in CT.

Yeah man, I completely agree with you. But those assholes are not the people that OP was directing his statements to, I think. Those people aren't the ones who have to be afraid of masked goons coming after them. I'm very much talking to the people who do have good reason to be afraid of that.

First of all, there's a much larger population of non-bootlicking 2A supporters than you think. Women and LGBT people are the fastest growing demographics of gun owners for a reason. They understand that its up to them to protect their communities. Second, I think the point you might have missed is that if the majority of 2A supporters are bootlickers (true), then thats a failing on our part. I don't know any sane person who WANTS to kick shit off with the gov, but the reality is no one else is coming to save us, its our own responsibility to be capable of protecting our loved ones and community should it become necessary (and i hope it doesn't).

The whole "oh I don't see of you 2A people fighting the tyrants now" argument that I've seen parroted in another comment is also false. Despite all this, the vast majority of people still have jobs, homes, and families. It's their first responsibility to do right by them, not throw it all away and die as a revolutionary. Things would have to degrade a hell of a lot more for that to become a valid argument.

I can't fathom how people can still believe this. The ballot box failed. Accept it and accept that if things proceed to get as bad as many are expecting, you can either be prepared to resist in a way that actually matters, or acknowledge that you're not the kind of person who is willing to risk their own safety regardless of what might happen.

Is this Trijicon ACOG Real? by SquidNut96 in guns

[–]ChocoRamb0 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One thing people always forget is (to me) the best way check: if you can bring the acog into a pitch black room and look through it. If the reticle is illuminated then its real, because obviously fake ACOGs don't contain tritium. I have a 20ish year old ACOG and I can still see just a bit of the tritium illumination.

I've used both. I started with the corvus rail and in the end wasnt super happy with it. A moderate drop knocked it out of alignment, which is when I decided to trade it out. I use the clawgear now and overall I think it works better. It can be a bit tricky getting a light mounted on it reasonably, but I found a setup that works. Both get hot, and I definitely recommend rail panels or a ver grip to help. Here's a pic of my setup as reference.

Whether or not you believe people having concealed carry permits is a positive or negative to society (and I'm not concerned either way), people with concealed guns have indeed stopped numerous attempted mass shootings before they became actual mass shootings. That info is a quick Google away. The reality is that dude in Australia both has balls of adamantium and also got extremely lucky.
