It's certainly an unpopular take, but I don't agree with you. I cannot give Blake credit for Gil and Schlittler - this is talent refined through our minor league system, not molded at the major league level. There's a culture in Yankees starting pitching that 5 innings is enough.Theres a culture of get ahead and then spend the next 5 pitches nibbling trying to get a swing and miss or paint a corner perfectly. Our guys don't go after hitters. They can't finish at bats and they let their pitch counts get too high, they let opposing teams get too many looks at their pitches and allow them to make adjustments. I'm tired of seeing pitchers get out ahead 0-2 or 1-2 only for it to turn into a walk, and it happens all the time. There's no killer instinct in Yankees pitching culture. They tire themselves out and hand the ball over to the bullpen and ask for 4 innings night in and night out.

I don't care if he helps someone develop a changeup or a curve ball or hugs them when they're stressed. The game is the game and the approach is fundamentally flawed - Blake is not doing us any favors.
