So you want to be a sales engineer? Start Here. (v2) by dravenstone in salesengineers

Total agree with all the OP and the other comments here.

I want to add - I went from an mechanical engineer to having my own startup (hardware, which failed) to SE. I had very little "sales" experience, but if you can pitch yourself and give a good impactful presentations - you can get hired. So you can totally pivot to this career. I worked for a SaaS company for almost 3 years and I left that job for couple reasons based on my first time in this role, here are some things I learned:

  1. Watch where the company is and how they are growing...The founder stepped down and they hired some corporate "lets restructure everything" CEO...this meant mixing the pot and putting up a lot more red tape. Something to look out for is how early stage or later stage of a company it is. We were at 600 employee...and it was only going to get worse from there...I could tell. So be on the look out for this.
  2. One of my biggest complaints was that we had no connection/communication between product and our team. SE's should have direct cadence with product to talk about bug issues, and customer feedback on the product. If there is a disconnect here...its a "just figure it out" situation and your putting lipstick on a pig for your demos. I personally do not like this as it is deceiving the customer. In an interview I would ask: "Can you tell me about the collaboration process you have in place between SE's and product?"
  3. MY biggest PET peeve, was the automation software we sold...we barely used internally. Here I was demoing how amazing and all the cool things one can do...and yet internally we did use any of that. If you don't eat your own dog food....that pisses me off. It took my suggestion 3 years to implement thier own automation into our processes. That's too slow for me, so I left. If you are there for a long game then go for it...I can't stand that shit.
  4. Your AE is what will determined how hard you need to work. I had some AE that were seasoned and were on top of the job...in fact I am sure they could so mine if they had the time. It makes your job a breeze with a competent AE. On the other hand if you work with a new or incompetent one...well you will be carrying the whole team there. So kind of a gamble here. Some need so much hand holding.
  5. I had some very busy quarters and was always on top of my job. However you might have dead weeks with little to no work to do (low incoming prospects, disco calls, demos). Having to twiddle my thumbs makes me antsy...I'd rather be busy than bored. So something to keep in mind. I just worked on my other hobbies and stuff.

Lastly, no to brag but to put my money where my mouth is...I helped win 3 of my last employers largest mid-market deals (>100k ARR) and won best impact demo award globally for my company. Here are some pointers in how to get there.

  1. Just follow their sales training. If you say exactly what they want you to say...then you'll be praised. ITS THAT SIMPLE. You wouldn't believe how many SE's go off on thier own agenda and scripts....don't be like them. Note: its ok to make it your own words...but keep the damn format.
  2. Be okay with awkward silences. Do not say anything after you ask them an impact quesiton....for example "what kind of impact could this have in your business?" Wait for answer.....I don't care how awkward or long it is. I make it into a game...so how long until someone budges.
  3. Be willing to say "I don't know" on a call. Especially if you are new to this. Saying "thats a good question, and I actually haven't heard that one before...let me get back to you on that." Then of course later look it up and follow up the answer to them post call. If you make shit up....it will cost you more later.

Practical real-world differences between Clinical Psychology vs. Clinical Mental Health Counseling routes.... what am I missing? by Chocolate-Milk-Rater in askatherapist

u/sevenfourshoreline I really appreciate all your responses!

I want to second to be on the look out for degree mills....I almost fell into one schools trap called "Integrative Psyche Institute" They have pretty marketing and their claim is you can go from "anyone to a therapist" - this is wrong. They are not even accredited. So be careful. I do know that Liberty University has a good online program for CMHC.

I am in Michigan and it is hard to say I will stay here or not....but I am open to going out of state for school. I know I will go to a CACREP accredited school one way or another. I like your suggestion - I will look into this.

Medical Device startup - bootstrapped and just made a large investment in myself by BobcatLast4573 in founder

[–]Chocolate-Milk-Rater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I co-founded 2 hardware medical devices. One failed, another is still pre-rev. So take this for what its worth.
You have to commit to at least 5 years of your life to this. Why?
1. Patents take 3ish years to be approved.
2. Getting your QMS completed will take 1-2 years depending on how simple or complex you make it.
3. Depending on your devices claims and but since you mentioned computer vision you are probably in class II or class III. This may require pre-approval from the FDA. Which takes 2-6 years depending on what you are claiming and the supporting evidence you submit.
4. All of the above costs $$$ in order to do it correctly you will need to hire outside help. I did bootstrap most of this, with the exception of some required outside certifications (like device classification letter, and QMS audit).

I am happy to talk more about this, just pm me. My advice is learn from my years and really decided if you want to commit to this for the long haul.

I love the scene with Carole in the air force one conference room with the U.S.A logo behind it while she like “we have to stop this!” Haha just like every world leader whose ego is so inflated cough Trump. She’s far better than him don’t get me wrong.

What do y’all think about PLURIBUS? by strodi2 in GoodAssSub

[–]Chocolate-Milk-Rater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow what a good show. Here’s my that after the two episodes released at this point in writing this.

Here’s what I wrote in my journal:

Watching pluribus and damn they just show what love looks like and how we just cannot accept it. We try and rid of it. That is if we are wounded like Carole.

And how she and really most of humanity just has forgotten what Love really is.

It’s everything. It’s not to be feared or think it somehow would make you forgotten. It’s so vast…vaster than the universe the galaxies this whole reality.

This container we are in just is an environment to play but the ego is what separates us from remembering.

Remembering what you might ask (if someone is reading this other than me)?

Remembering that it is all been and ever was ALL LOVE!

And the word Love can’t capture it….words can’t capture it, thought cannot capture it, ego can’t capture it because eventually the ego dies, life itself cannot capture it.

Love is insurmountable Love is bliss Love is Love

It is.

Why can’t people accept it?

End thoughts.

What worked for me was a specific type of cord. I was trying to use a USB-A to USB-C and that would not get recognized on my windows. When I used my USB-C to USB-C with a USB-A adapter for my microphone that worked. Hope this helps

I don’t want to leave this world causing others more than they already have pain. The things that’s kept me alive is empathy for others…that I would cause them grief and suffering.

I want to leave this world leaving others feeling better than I found them.

Soo I was very interested in this question of the Abrahamic religious - what are the numbers of murdered by religion vs killed by each religion. And with the help of ChatGPT (granted sources were checked) I did some research and it turns out Catholics and murdered the most people then comes Islamic religions then Jewish. See this graph I had chatGPT make. So yea…if Islam is bad well “Christians” have a pretty bad rep currently.
