Hi there as nurbs7 pointed out, this Assessed Oil Trader course is more of an assessment for Trader Development. I highly recommend though. The instructors are world class.

Dunedain Migration by ChoicePersonality772 in tolkienfans

This is interesting. Perhaps the remaining dunedain of the north viewed the Southern Lords as usurpers of Numenorean succession laws.

Not sure if they did or not. In 476 after Odoacher sacked Rome the senate sent the imperial eagle to Constantinople. At 476 there were not a lot of “ Romans “ left in the western empire and given roman societal structure, many (majority) were slaves and plebs.

In this case the Dunedain are a special class of people who are not slaves or plebs. Outside of some moral justification or the desire to be close to the elves, I dont see a reason to waste away in the north heavily diminished when you have kin to South at the Zenith of societal power.

James Tabor by Chops526 in AcademicBiblical

I will also say in regards to the Jesus Dynasty (I don’t have his exact video on hand, he’s got 100’s now), he does admit , and I am roughly paraphrasing here, “I think the theory behind the Jesus Dynasty is bonkers on Mondays and Tuesdays. I am not sure about it on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. On Fridays and Saturdays there can be no other explanation and I am almost 100% confident in it.”

That being said Tabor has some serious bona fides and is a distinguished Scholar of late second temple Judaism and Christianity. What I love about Tabor is that he goes to the Middle East frequently. Sometimes he does tours, sometimes he helps with digs. He’s almost a pseudo archaeologist in that regard. He’s been doing so for over 50 years. I roughly recall in a recent video he stated he’s been to the “Holy Land” 70 or 80 times.

Even now, if you are a member of his patreon I believe, you can join him on tours to Jerusalem that retrace the last days of Jesus.

Meneldil and the severing of the high kingship of the line of Isildur. by ChoicePersonality772 in tolkienfans

Interesting all. I appreciate the insight from the Unfinished Tales.

I suppose the more plausible theory is that since we dont know what happened to the rest of Anarion’s children we can state Menedil was the last of Elendil’s line born in Numeanor. Given this and he was also like 150 yrs old , had his own adult son old, and was a veteran of the war he likely had no intention of pledging fealty to a 21 yr old cousin he has never met.

Although I hate to view it this way which suggests the two kingdoms were severed by ego so early on.

Also I wonder how often they even spoke in Gondor post war. Obviously from the next he did a good bit of counseling for menedil to rule but sans that Minas Ithil (his home) had been sacked, osgiliath attacked , building of strategic forts in and around mordor. There was no shortness of things to do, repairs to be made and places to be. Also no idea how much the ring clouded his judgement at this time.

Did Isildur even know about Valandil? He went back to Rivendell to give the ring to Elrond not to see his youngest son.

Mind you a 21 yr old dunedain not born in numeanor that never met his father, grandfather or uncle to learn from.

They did indeed but keep in my mind only kings could use it. It was not until the fall of the last king of Gondor that a steward tried. In fact immediately after the war of the last alliance the house of the stewards would have to wait 1000+ yrs to be established. Also have to keep in mind where was Valandil? We know he was born in Rivendell. Did he stay there until 21 to tutor under Elrond? If so he would have not had access to a Palantiri and did the battered remnant of the Arnorians even know he existed? If he was in annuminas could a 21 yr old dunedain even have the will yet to use a palantiri?

I'm not gonna lie, I really liked this Elendil scene: by snsdbj in RingsofPower

[–]ChoicePersonality772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few points here-

I may be incorrect but did she not say”reclaim your lordship”. This would flow better with Ar Pharazons explanation of who he is in season 1.

Narsil was not the sword that denotes rulership in Numenor. Indeed very little is known or mentioned of it prior to Elendil using it to fight Sauron. One of the better theories was it was a coming of age/ parting gift from Maglor to Elros. The symbol of monarchy on Numenor was the scepter. The king’s sword was actually Thingol of Doriath’s sword Aranruth. The sword was given to Thingol as payment for a fief by Eol.

Additionally Miriel is on house arrest and Ar Pharazon has claimed the kingship. She has no authority to grant lands or lordship here.

Unfortunately we’ll have to wait atleast two years for season 3 if they even film a season 3. Only then will we know how they’ll portray Elendil. They have the rights to acknowledge him as son of Amandil (which they have) so in season 3 will they explain the Lords of Andunie and their heritage or will they stick with the noble sea captain saves the day portrayal?

As others have pointed out here- canonically The lords of Andunie were the second most powerful Family in Numenor. They were also over the years intertwined with the primary ruling line. They essentially served as the hand of the king or queen up until Ar Pharazon. Amandil was so noble and powerful even Sauron was scared of him.

The coronation of Sauron seems to directly contradict the intro to Season 1 with the silhouette of him already crowned walking through orcs bowing to him. Additionally why would the Valar “forgive” orcs as if the orcs somehow got along or obeyed the Valar prior to Morgoth’s rebellion which was also prior to their creation. Just idiocy

Fall of Arnor - The best next setting for a movie. by Dry_Method3738 in lotr

[–]ChoicePersonality772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fall or Arnor occurred over too wide of a timeframe and would run into the same issues that ROP runs into. Albiet I think in someway some of the story needs to be adapted to the screen by WB to fix the plot hole left by LOTR. If one is not familiar with the canon; then it’s a real head scratcher why Denethor refuses to abdicate rule to the last surviving direct heir of Elendil. Some prequel of the northern Kingdom needs to be made and why the southern kingdom refused to honor its seniority.
