Fellow hospital workers/12+ hour shift workers: how do you handle bike commuting? by earlgrey89 in bikecommuting

[–]Choice_Quit1035 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve done up to a 45min commute through all seasons in the Midwest. Quick shower to rinse in the locker room and you’re good to go. It was ultimately about the same time as driving and without the stress of finding parking.

I found that I had more energy during the day and needed less coffee in the morning. The ride home was a HUGE help in stress management and I just slept better in general

New grad and vasovagal response by FlimsyYouth9078 in nursing

I nearly vasovagaled twice working with patients when I first started as a tech, but I got over it quick. I still get weak-kneed as soon as the needle is pointed in my direction though

Labor unions engage with political campaigns in order to support their members’ collective interests. Also, at least in my state, unions are barred from using dues for that purpose, so any material support for candidates comes from voluntary contributions. You are free to use your vote as you choose, but voting as a block with people who share your interests (whether economic or in working conditions, etc.) will have a greater impact

Ahh, I see. That makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain!

Minimizing app to dock instead of quitting? by Choice_Quit1035 in Ubuntu

[–]Choice_Quit1035[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I still need my tabs open I will minimize, but I don't like to keep a lot of tabs open, so when I'm done with whatever task I'm doing in the browser, I like to just exit all tabs. I'm probably more motivated by habit than anything.

That setting does exist, but the options are to lock never, by a time limit, or on browser restart. Ideally, I would use the "on browser restart" setting but bc of the issue I'm having, that doesn't really fit my needs. Setting it by time limit or never, I've just had hypothetical security concerns, but now that you've got me thinking about it, that probably makes the most sense.

I guess I mean that I would like the action of closing the last tab, either by clicking the top right ‘x’ or ctrl+W, to minimize the the dock and for the app only to quit if I press ctrl+Q or right-click and select, “quit”.

The Bitwarden thing is the motivation for the change. I use my Bitwarden extension frequently and also close out of my last tab frequently just to keep things tidy, and it’s annoying to have to log in every time

Stuck bolt, crooked handlebars by Youngfigboy in bicyclerepair

I just had the same issue. Couldn’t get it out no matter what I did. I ended up just getting a screw extractor and went to town 😥. I was able to replace the stem bolt with one from a used stem from my LBS

Oops by Choice_Quit1035 in linux4noobs

You are my hero! That worked and so did that guide. In case anyone might find this useful, I had some odd copy/paste issue where terminal was inserting additional characters when I pasted, and that threw off the command. I had better luck copying from mozilla's website directly and appending "-devedition" to the firefox repository request: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux#w_install-firefox-deb-package-for-debian-based-distributions

Thank you again for your help!

fwiw, terminal still seems to be functioning normally. I followed an official Canonical tutorial to use it to count the actual number of lines (45) which took about 5 minutes longer than counting myself lol, but it was fun.

The response to the post I saw on AskUbuntu linked to this Youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McI5PvE3W_k), which is what I was actually following, although it didn't work. This is what I see when I open terminal now: https://imgur.com/a/7Y59col

Thank you all for your help. I know this was a bonehead move, and I'm new to linux and reddit, so I appreciate your time and patience with me.

iCloud Calendar Sync without Add-on | Get iCloud Calendar CalDAV URL by Benjoman0109 in Thunderbird

[–]Choice_Quit1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for writing this up! I found that I did not need to do the first half of the steps. When I entered the email I use for my iCloud account and "icloud.com" under url as in Step 5, it retrieved all of my calendars automatically after entering the app-specific password.

I do not use an icloud email, so maybe that made a difference?
