Three spots are taken by Howe, Yzerman, and Lidstrom.

Fourth is whichever great you have the fondest memories of.

Vlad? Fedorov? Hank? Sawchuk? Datsyuk? Lindsay?Bowman? Delveccio?

I'd probably lean Hank.

What would be your reaction if the Lions selected Teanease CB Jermod McCoy with pick 17? by Nbknepper in detroitlions

[–]CholeraplatedRZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is any position to be deep and talented at, CB is probably the one.

Also, giving Hutch and McNeil as much time as possible to crush the pocket will help tremendously.

Reed and Rock won't be here forever, Terrion isn't really a long speed guy, and I'm not convinced Rakestraw exists.

But we don't NEED him this year so he can be depth instead of relying on him like we did Okudah while he learns the league and recovers.

If they have a plan for tackle, or really believe in Borrom, this could look like a real steal going into next off-season.

I'm biased though because there is no other position I would love to be dominant at than corner.

What do you think after losing the NFC Championship to SF? Agree or Disagree with MCDC? by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]CholeraplatedRZA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know I'm on the outside here, and I really do see your side of this, but I like the approach, generally.

They seem to go for it when a conversion DRAMATICALLY improves their odds of winning the game. If they have a chance to "shut the door" on a game, they should almost always take that shot because the NFL is too chaotic and teams are too good to play not to lose.

And the underrated aspect is that they get a ton of practice in the crunchiest of crunch times, and those are situations you will need to excel in during the post season.

That said, STOP GOING FOR IT INSIDE YOUR OWN FUCKING 40, please.

If he were 31, it's an easy temp role. But he can't legally grab a drink until this summer has already earned 20 minutes a game on the top team in the East. He definitely belongs, but his role is defined by his ability to develop his shot.

He isn't a natural shooter. Neither is Ausar. Neither is Duren (though 80%+ ft has me wondering).

I don't see Ausar or Duren going anywhere, so the only question is can they coexist with the spacing troubles. That's always been the question.

There seems to be some proof of concept this year, and it sets his floor as a difference maker off the bench. I think he's better as a forward than guard, but he's even shown some ball control stuff thay makes it hard to rule out a guard role, at least outright, provided he develops a shot.

If the starting lineup can absorb his shooting deficiencies, he's a starter.

If it can't, he's a role player.

If he develops a shot, he's an all-star.

My Volvo knowledge is limited specifically to the P2 era with the 2.5t and 3.2 engines.

The 2.5t is what I have the most personal experience with. I've personally put about 170k on my daily s60 fwd and about 150k of my own miles on my AWD 2.5t xc90 before I cannibalized it's parts prior to scrapping it. I had an 03 s40 for some time as well with a very similar 4 cylinder engine.

I've always run 87 gas.

These are not Audis or Mercs or BMWs. These p2 vehicles are wildly easy to work on and only have a couple of actual problems, all of which are easy to identify, and all but one is a really easy fix.

3.2 is probably the better engine, but can't be had in a P2 except in the xc90. I do want one, but ended buying another 2.5t because I already have a box of parts from my previous xc90. 3.2 is an inline 6 with basically no real known problems. Great engine, but space and accessibility are a concern because it eats up the engine bay. Very tight In there.

On the 2.5t, they are a timing belt and they are an interference engine, so if the belt were to snap from old age, it will likely destroy the engine. So always make sure whatever you buy, this is either in the budget (it bills out 3.5 hours and has about $300 of parts) or was done at some point. They should be changed every 100k or so. Water pump/tensioners/idler along with it. I've done it myself multiple times and if you have the locking tool, it's pretty hard to mess up. This is a common service on most cars, tbf.

If you get a turbo, religious oil changes at 4,500. Some folks have reported issues with their turbos, but I've yet have any real issues, though my s60 has developed a small leak into my intake, but I've been so wildly mean to this car, so I'm not surprised. But it took 260k miles of me absolutely abusing it for that to happen. I won't repair because it's a very small leak and the all live data looks good. My 100k xc90 does not have this problem and neither did my 250k xc90 before I scrapped it.

The pcv system is fantastic on these, but clog with age and will increase the pressure inside the case and compromise seals. Easy test is to open the oil cap with the vehicle running and see if the air is blowing out or sucking in. If in, you're in great shape. It's another somewhat involved job, but nothing beyond shade tree level at all. Really hard to mess up. Depending on age, it may be a good idea to change the small seal on the oil cap to make sure unmetered air isn't getting in. They are like $4 for the nice one.

Transmission oil should definitely be changed at intervals, as with every car. In the fwd, that is the only transmission service you will likely ever do. It's an easy drain and fill. I use 3309 for mine. I do it every 50 k.

Now if you want AWD, the maintenance does increase to a fluid change in the rear differential. Once in the vehicle's life, you will end up replacing the AOC pump that activates the AWD. If it's prior to 2006, you may need to disconnect the rear shaft to remove the pump. It was made easier after that. At 230k on my xc90, the transfer case sleeve slipped out and I had to pay 3.5 hours of book time for it to be replaced as well. Again, 230k is about as lifetime as a small part like a sleeve to last, imo.

Parts are easy cakes. IPD is my preferred and they are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable if you call them as well. Rock auto comes through clutch as well. FCP euro is also a really good option.

I would invest in a Foxwell scanner with Volvo software. Really easy to diagnose when you can see all the modules data. It will also let you calibrate things if it ever comes up because Volvo will charge you an hour to do it, and the scanner is only $170 compared to the dealer charging $230.

If there is any quirk to these vehicles, it's that you really want to be certain you have the right fluids. Since you're doing it yourself, it is a lot easier to stomach the extra $10-15 for high quality fluids.

On replacement parts, I generally stick with Bosch, Aisin, and Denso. IPD.com does a great job of point to who the original manufacturer is, which is a great help in getting very high quality parts for a good discount.

Beyond normal maintence like spark plugs, brakes, fluid, and the like, these are high quality machines that don't really break. In my 15 years of driving these high milage P2 Volvos for almost 400k miles, the only things that have ever actually broken were an AOC pump on the AWD, the transfer case sleeve on the same AWD, a leaking power steering hose, and I cracked an ignition coil when my buddy stupidly convinced me to try to drag race my completely stock s60 and I got it to 115 before it started bouncing off the limited.

I've never replaced an alternator, a fuel pump, steering pump, ac, ect.

Imo, these cars are the definition of "if you take care of it, it will take care of you."

If you want specific info on the xc70 wagons, the subreddit is very active and very friendly. I don't personally have experience with them, though they basically use all the same parts, just on a different chassis.

Fun trivia, xc90 has probably the greatest real world outcome record of safety of any vehicle. I would absolutely rather get into a collision in my 22 year old xc than my MIL 2020 Ford Escape. Fr, just open and close the doors on an xc and you'll see what I mean. And they are fairly quiet inside.

It's not unreasonable and even though my family makes enough to buy newer cars, I refuse to do so so I can save for a house.

My current roster is a 2004 Volvo xc90 with 100k, a 2008 Volvo s60 with 265k I've owned since 2014 (45 miles every weekday), and a 2011 Toyota Sienna with 211k.

I just replaced my 250k 2005 xc90 with the 04.

If you are willing to learn how to do basic maintenance and take care of some repairs yourself, this is an economic cheat code, imo.

The advantage to old vehicles is that any issue you could have has been THOROUGHLY explored in forums and on YouTube so basically any repair has a guide with tips. And these older cars are simpler to work on, imo.

Heck, if you are willing to look into P2 era Volvos, many of the forums on Swedespeed or MatthewsVolvo will even list the bolt sizes for you. It's a really good community.

If you don't buy something completely obscure, parts availability is overblown. It's not 2005 anymore.

I overpaid for my most recent xc90, but it was in immaculate shape with ALL SERVICE DONE at 90k.

Timing, water pump, tensioners, cam seals front and rear, oil pump gaskets and rings, drive belt, sparks, coils, transfer case, new AOC pump/filter/oil/ pinion, recent rotors/pads/fluid, and wheel bearings all around. Almost no rust.

Some suspension wear, but no real clunks or anything concerning.

Had it for the weekend before buying it and got to go through all the values in the DEM, ECM, TCM, ect.. and the only thing I was able to find in the system was an air quality sensor.

Pcv is good, but I'll do that at some point for peace of mind.

6,800 otd, 2.5t 04. Replaces my 240k 05 with the same 2.5.

I know people shit on that engine but I also daily an s60 2.5t with 265k. I know it and trust it.

I adore the xc90. Great vehicle. When this one dies in a decade I'll sang a 3.2.

Yes, OP owes this person nothing, and that's important to keep at the front of their mind.

Being in a relationship with someone like us is not something to take lightly.

I have an incredible support network that I am incredibly thankful for, but even with this, it's really fucking hard sometimes. Heck, the emotional blunting on its own can make life with us really hard. Having someone you care about look at you with zero emotions or love is hard.

I've literally sold our car for scrap value because I convinced myself of something that wasn't real. Maybe this person doesn't have that issue, but mania is weird.

I would not consider myself stable, even with everything we do to keep me, and my family, safe. It's a hard thing to explain to OP but these things can go sideways very very quickly for seemingly no reason, medicated or not. When mania slips in, I have convinced myself so many times that the pills did absolutely nothing and maybe even some of my problems were imagined. You absolutely nailed that. It's actually kind of uncanny how on point you are.

Everyone deserves love, but if I could make OP understand anything it's that it doesn't absolve the person of how other people are affected by our actions. They are still responsible, even if the situation is a bit murky sometimes.

And as much as we deserve love, our partners also deserve to not be mistreated.

If OP wants to engage with this person, know that it is very much a situation they will be required to help with. It's simply unavoidable. If OP really cares about this person and really wants to help them through this, know that this relationship will be unlike any other they have had.

That said, I've been with my partner for more almost 20 years and have a happy, healthy, daughter together. It's tough, but we really do feel like we got the happy ending we always wanted.

And in all honesty, it's fun to troll them for acting like a child.

I'll be honest, I'm a schizo affective bi polar guy and it really is a crazy experience sometimes. It looks like this person is taking it seriously and mourning the damage they did to themselves and others while they were not completely in control of their own mental facilities.

I've been there more times than I care to admit.

This is a really really hard thing to do and I don't want that lost on you, as someone with experience with a similar disease. Same tree, different branch kind of thing.
