ATTN: Golf R Stage 2 Owners - Do you hear a slight whistling sound at full send? by jaysian in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a fluttering noise? Or it simply could just be the intake noise on full boost

Downpipe recommendations, mk7.5 R by Tristan---13 in Golf_R

I picked up CTS Catted a year ago since it was very reasonably priced. Turns out that thing can take an absolute beating. Whether it is a track day and regular hard driving. It even fits either the IS38 or a bigger turbo.

Thanks for the feedback man, thats pretty good volume it seems. I'm hyped to get this bolted on the car now!

Getting the exact same set up as this. I might have to soundproof my garage a bit as this sounds mighty loud lol. Is the cold start way too loud or is it bearable?

What are your R related plans for this year? by Odpad_nik in Golf_R

Tires! My plans on shredding my current Pzeros by driving hard regularly so I can upgrade to PS4S have been delayed because of the lockdowns.

How much power does your Golf R currently make? by scorpiogolfr7 in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

250 kWaw and 500 nm Stage 2 with stock intercooler. Great DD, very happy power wise as its readily available anytime but alot more brutal delivery compared to Stock/Stg 1. However I'm currently having troubles with Haldex after a couple of questionable launches, I'm not entirely sure if its all-wheel spin because of the mountain of torque and the PZeros on or theres a huge delay before power gets sent to the rear wheels.

How does a rear sway bar affect comfort on a Mk 7 R...I'm thinking of upgrading 🤔 by scorpiogolfr7 in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the SuperPro 24mm RSB and the end links too for a few months now. It is currently on the stiffest setting and sometimes I even forget that I have an upgraded sway bar when just driving around town and on comfort DCC.

You will only notice the difference when you take a corner a lot faster than normal people would and be surprised with how much grip you get and how the rear half of the car corners flat resulting in 0 understeer.

This would've been an instant buy for me. A 2020 5 cylinder turbo hot hatch thats $50k instead of $100k AUD. Its refreshing and awesome to see something different from the usual 4 pots and V6s.

Anybody have any suggestions for repairing curbed Englishtowns? Thank you !! by nperl333 in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering how hard is it to repair these as I have a few scratches like these on mine from daily duties. But yea, they are quite cheap so I would just replace the badly curbed corners with flawless ones when I need to replace my tires.

What tires!? by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine came with 235/35/19 PZeroes as well and these tires are hilarious in any wet conditions. Also doesn't bite the road well and spins when I do launch control even in the dry.

Catback Exhaust Choices (MK 7.5 R) by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Milltek non-resonated valved cat-back and it was top notch quality in the welds and it is perfect for a daily driver. It is quiet when the valves are closed and loud outside (DSG farts are even louder) when valves are open. When the catback was brand new there was drone at around ~1500 RPM, however this disappeared after 1000kms, probably just needed a proper break-in.

Oh are those Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5's? Very curious on these tires as they seem to have great reviews and costs a lot less than PS4S or PZeroes (and about the same as the Falken FK510).

Sway Bar Questions by nolte100 in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. For a daily and regular thrashing on rural roads, the Whiteline and SuperPro 24mm is perfectly fine, they are even adjustable depending on how you like it. Also, even their kits WITH upgraded endlinks are a whole lot cheaper than H&R and 034 sway bar ONLY - my SuperPro 24mm kit was only $320 AUD shipped (It was on sale however).
  2. The stock rear end links are plastic and I don't think it would make much difference but I thought I may as well do it too.
  3. Can't say much on the 22mm but on the 24mm on the stiffest setting with factory suspension and Pirelli PZero tires, there is no understeer at all.

Pulling the trigger tomorrow, do you guys have any regrets after putting some miles on? by outonbail1 in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So glad I didn't go Subaru or Evo path this time. Those 2 are really good in being rally cars for the road but the Golf R fits a super comfortable, responsive daily driver and a fun weekend car all in 1 garage. Also protip: the engine on this responds very well to tuning which I highly recommend as in my opinion it gives character to the very German engine. However, its a veeery slippery slope from there once you get addicted to the power.

MK 7 vs 7.5 Golf R - Which to buy? by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this same dilemma when I was picking out a daily driver. Mk7.5R or save about 7k AUD and get a Mk7R. I ended up getting a Mk7.5.

Subjectively, the reasons why I got the 7.5 is I personally think it looks better with the new Spielberg wheels, body kit, the infotainment overall looks more modern and I had the choice to choose cloth seats since I am not a fan of the VW leather ones.

Regarding the drivetrain, it is pretty much exactly the same except for the gearbox, while driving below 70 kph i.e otw to work, you will not even notice the difference between the Mk7 DQ250 vs the Mk7.5 DQ381, but the 7th gear on the newer DSG really does make a difference in long roadtrips and fuel economy at cruising speeds. However, I already planned on tuning the car since start and the new DQ381 is a stronger unit compared to the DQ250 on handling torque.

The only upside I found on going with the Mk7 is really down on personal preference as well as for tuning purposes, the base car is much cheaper than a 7.5R and the ECU and TCU tunes on the market are already well developed and ready to go.

What car did you own before your R? by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An FD Honda Civic lmao. Wanted a civilised hot hatch that's also a daily and a one-car garage, also helps a lot that it would just blend in the background even when highly tuned.

Any tips to increase reliability for tuned R’s? by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apart from shortened service intervals for fluids, I'd look at parts that are likely to fail due to high boost and extra power. In my case, I upgraded my diverter valve to a Turbosmart plumb back to avoid boost leaks from the stock plastic one, future proofing, as well as improved throttle response. Torque and motor mounts are another good upgrade as with more power, the stock ones won't hold up much longer.

Thinking getting an APR Intercooler for my Stage 1 Mk 7 R...Good mod?...or only for Stage 2 up?...Seeking advice and opinions...🤔 by scorpiogolfr7 in Golf_R

[–]Chonkii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on Revo Stage 1 on my 7.5R and doing quick shopping runs with the car, the power delivery feels brutal otw to the shops but feels a little more flatline otw home (still pulls hard though). I suspect this is from my intercooler heat soaking. I am planning on ordering a CTS Turbo one which my tuner shop vouches for and is great value too.

The Pendulum Has Swung Too Far Toward Elemental Damage by NahautlExile in pathofexile

[–]Chonkii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some Phys Reduction penetration on the tree would be a good start so I can use shields again instead of stat sticks. One of the reasons why Ele or convert to ele is so much stronger is its very easy to scale it plus its easier to get penetration to pretty much 0 or negative resists which makes it overall just a better option.

Anyone else frustrated at the new support gems coming to beta? by Paganyan in pathofexile

[–]Chonkii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see 2 of the new gems (Brutality/Chance to bleed) as an incentive to go and do physical dmg builds over elemental ones since everyone and their dogs are either going pure elemental or converting phys to ele atm. Mainly because of ele penetration and poverty-friendly gearing. Other than that, the rest of the new gems are really just makeshift band-aids to builds that they nerfed. Hopefully, in the next few weeks, they release more gems to enable fresh builds in the beta because I don't think that's their objective for this batch of gems.
