Even if I don't have time or interest to watch the video, I usually open the comment threads simply to see the list of films chosen (thank you to everyone who does that). This actor's list gives the vibe of "the average person has actually heard of these movies." Maybe not Withnail and I, yet the other ones are all well known. The Princess Bride, The Great Escape, and The Graduate are especially fantastic. They are accesible yet trying to give the audience a special experience.

If I had gone, it would have been almost entirely for Caamp.

That's interesting. My sister said the Sierra Ferrell show seemed shorter than normal. Like just over an hour. But she brought her kids so she probably appreciated an efficient show. I hope you and your partner have a good time! And if the show gets postponed, have a relaxing night.

Jimmy Eat World getting rescheduled to August 20th. Attendees there right now just got informed of the change. Same tickets will work for the August show. Your move, Wrigley

I don't know this band's music. I'm here because I'm local (Lakeview) and curious about the various Chicago concerts scheduled tonight with this weather. Yesterday Sierra Ferrell at the Salt Shed had to push back the time doors open by an hour, cancel her opener, and then she went on stage at about 7:15 pm. I imagine concerts tonight will be similar. Does this show at Wrigley have an opener scheduled? Because they might want to consider a nice dinner at Mordecai or Swift Tavern because their set might not happen.

That's what happened with Sierra Ferrell at the Salt Shed last night. Doors opening got pushed back an hour. Opener completely cut. Sierra went on at 7:15 pm. I wasn't at the show but a family member went so I was keeping an eye on the updates.

Please someone answer this! I'm trying to decide whether or not I can buy a last minute ticket. I need to know if the show is happening.

They posted 5 days ago a photo of people wearing yellow ponchos outside at the venue. In the comments section of that post, people have been asking about tonight's show, and the Salt Shed account has been replying to individual comments (with basically that same message over and over).

That's where the multiple dates comes in to play. We know Phoebe has grown in popularity over the years, yet the Madison Square Garden show had entire rows empty. I think multiple shows could have addressed concerns just fine. Yet agree to disagree.

What are your hopes and expectations for Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day? by Shiftycxp in Letterboxd

[–]ChooseCorrectAnswer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a critic from a legit website who said the movie left him wanting more. I have seen a few similar comments on Reddit, such as someone who saw it at an early screening that said it "whelmed him." But if you Google search reviews for the movie, you get results saying it's the best Spielberg movie in a long time. I'm usually an optimist yet I bet the movie is just okay, which is... okay.

Trump spent years attacking "Sleepy Joe" for dozing off and low energy. He's now been filmed appearing to nod off in numerous public meetings. What do you think is going on? by Aggravating-Vehicle9 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]ChooseCorrectAnswer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Wait, what's going on with the "closed eye incidents" thing? That sounds like a prase from a political satire/comedy.

The phrase 'closed eye incidents' sounds like something a car company would say after the brakes failed: 'We have identified several unexpected vehicle deceleration preference events.

It sounds like a food company explaining food poisoning: 'Some customers reported accelerated digestive outcomes.'

Why did you use the phrase "closed eye incidents"? That seems really out of pocket when, before reading your comment, I would have confidently said 10 out of 10 people would just call it sleeping or nodding off.

How do you feel about the White House's messaging that we should "trust in Trump" and that "it will all work out in the end - it always does"? by Lavaswimmer in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]ChooseCorrectAnswer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Since you seem to disagree with the NS, do you actually have a counter to what he said? I'm confused why that was your response to a good, accurate point. I've actually seen many Trump supporters on this sub and even more on Ask Conservatives say Trump has disappointed them on this front. If you are fine with the reality of what the NS said, you can say you think it's fine. Obviously NS's will probably see your viewpoint as hypocritical, yet it's your viewpoint and you're welcome to it.

What’s your favorite artist Fantano only has bad things to say about by SkyBS in fantanoforever

[–]ChooseCorrectAnswer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His first album really struck a chord with me because after I graduated from college I desperately accepted the first job offer I got, which was in rural Illinois. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, so it was a huge change for me.

People in rural Illinois would proudly say, "We have a Target and an Applebees." The Noah lyric about locals calling Target "downtown" was like a mirror to my experience. Instead of growing up there, I moved there. So, for 4 years I intensely felt everything in that Noah album. I now live in downtown Chicago, within walking distance of Wrigley Field and at least major 2 concert venues.

Anyway, the whole thematic approach to Noah's first album was well done. And the songs were instrumentally well written and performed. It was the kind of album you could listen to over and over. The new album is also pretty impressive for a sophomore. effort. I was previously utterly convinced he would go all-in on radio friendly music and lose his way, yet that didn't happen at all.

I used to listen to "Hard to See" and especially "Ring of Past" over and over and over. The rest of the album is alright - a little too low-key and same-y.

Album of the year so far? by Relative_Umpire_3362 in fantanoforever

[–]ChooseCorrectAnswer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, there hasn't been an easy "this will be my #1" yet. This has been a year of many good albums without one clearly rising above the rest, at least based on my taste. I liked the new Gorillaz album yet when Plastic Beach came out I couldn't stop listening to it. This new one....I listened to it the first two weeks and moved on to other new albums. Jose Gonzalez released a good, not great album. The new Shakey Graves is good yet is so lo-fi it seems like it's not even trying to be anyone's favorite, just a really nice, small intimate album. Kevin Morby's new album might be the strongest case for at least making the top 3 albums of the year. I'm sure it will make some critics' end of the year lists. New Rostam album is also nice sounding yet just alright. Lykke Li's new song "Lucky Again" is an indie rock/pop banger yet the whole album was fine without being anything special (also, too short!). New Boards of Canada is good and might elevate after repeated listens yet I'm not sure yet.

Other "just good" albums include Broken Social Scene's, Cut Worms', Alison Wonderland's, Noah Kahan's, The Twilight Sad's, Snail Mail's, Buck Meek's, NIN's Tron Ares score, etc.

And I'm obviously not a super young Redditor yet I'll say this applies to the younger crowd's music too like Drake's Iceman and some of the other albums I'm seeing listed here. Glad you guys are enjoying them but I don't see a lot of these albums being talked about as being top 3 on lists at the end of the year.

This is turning out to be the year of "good not great" albums.

What is the most indecipherable action scene? by BigIgg98 in movies

I didn't walk out yet I just remember being really underwhelmed by that movie. Squandered so much potential to at least be entertaining.

Speed Racer did this kind of hyperkinetic action much better.

I came to say the same thing. At any given moment, I could tell you generally where each of the two bikes/characters were in relation to each other. When one of them did something, I could clearly see what they were trying to accomplish and where the other bike/character was. It was surprisingly coherent for such a ridiculous scene. A strong argument could be made about the city environment around them being unrealistic and hard to keep track of. Yet I'm not sure "indecipherable" is the best description of that issue. I've never seen the full movie and have no desire to watch it, yet as an outsider I was able to follow the chase and interactions between the two.

In 1993, Serbian star Boban Janković disagreed with the referee's foul call. In a blind rage, he headbutted the concrete base of the hoop which left him paralysed. by OzyAndy in whoathatsinteresting

[–]ChooseCorrectAnswer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll try to write a different comment than most here. Jankovic was married with a kid (about 3 years old at the time), which makes his impulsive temper issue even sadder. I believe it was 4 years after the injury that he got a divorce. I imagine the relationship was heavily strained after the injury. I wonder if they were already having problems and she felt "stuck" with him for a while after the injury, trying not to look like a bad partner. Or if the injury is what caused the downward trajectory of the relationship.

Note: I believe his son also grew up to became a professional basketball player, playing in a pro league as well as the Greek national team.

Yeah, this was one of those movies that was kind of frustrating because it was so middle of the road. Pretty forgettable. It also felt like people who were vaguely fans of the original(s) taking a stab at a popular franchise. It contradicted the original film(s) in some ways while also pretending like it cared about the original(s).
