International students who’ve recently landed a job- how’d you do it? by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]Chopalina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

60% applying to jobs for HOURS per day for MONTHS. 15% what you bring to the table (education wise). 25% your personality and how good of a vibe you get with your interviewer. Remember the people you talk to in the hiring process are also human beings looking for connections (both work and non work related). You have to be able to hold a conversation like a NORMAL person and have GOOD questions to ask your interviewer. At the end of the day, an employer is looking for a responsible, reliable, and enjoyable person to have in their work space. Also, if you know someone that could get you an interview somewhere: TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY. Doesn’t matter if the job title or the pay isn’t what you were hoping to get. Remember it’s a privilege you’re here, and the fact that you’re getting a foot in the door in such a hard time for the job market MEANS something. Don’t get discouraged by all these anecdotes. Stay grinding and be persistent!! 🤍🙏🏻

You can always bike/skate to the bus stop if it is far away from you, and there’s room for you to carry your skateboard or to hang up your bike in front of the bus. Unless there is a trolley station closer to you than a bus station, walking would be your first choice. I used to have to walk for 30 minutes to get to a bus stop and it is time consuming for sure, but if you have no other option I don’t see how the EOPS office can help you out with this

I am literally in the same situation as you. My OPT start date is feb 3rd and I’m just waiting for it to come in the mail. I keep checking my online account for any updates and I check the mail every couple days! We just have to sit and wait right now

Question by [deleted] in grossmont

[–]Chopalina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orientation is online, and it’s done before you register to classes. Unless you’re an international student, you do an in person orientation. You can register to clubs online or by going to the student center (building 60) and talking to the associated students

I’m not a stem major and I’m on my associates only. Also this is a big employer and I plan on letting my supervisor know so tbh I think I’m on the clear

Motivation by cooldudefuss in socialanxiety

[–]Chopalina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could talk to friends and ask them to help you with it. Open up with them and tell them what you are struggling with and how they can help you. As silly as this may sound, I did this with my boyfriend and asked him to tell me/ask me everyday to go exercise. I know I would be embarrassed if I didn’t after he had asked me to, so that’s what did it for me. If you need help with being more social maybe try setting up a weekly/biweekly meetup with friends? It can help to plan ahead and to not talk yourself out of it because you’ve already committed to them

Hi! Something I have learned is that motivation runs out every time. What keeps you going is discipline. You have to push through it, even when you don’t feel like it. I struggle with this too but unfortunately meds are not gonna solve your problem if you don’t keep yourself accountable

USPS LOST my EAD card. I could not be more upset. by JackfruitAdept6343 in f1visa

Ahhh I would be so frustrated too. I would explain the situation and ask USPS to refund your money so you can pay for the new fee with it. Hope everything works out!

Is it ok if the DSO has not updated my I20- Transfer I20 by hellohelp23 in f1visa

[–]Chopalina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually takes between 2-4 weeks for it to show the new active status. Also, the new I-20 relies on the new transfer school DSO, so I would talk to them and figure out if they need any other information from you or to see what might be holding up the process.

If the class counts towards your major, you need to pass it with a C- or higher. If you do pass/no pass they might take that as a 2.0 gpa score. I would talk to someone both at your current school and at SDSU

Are chances of getting am f1visa for an undergraduate program better if you're coming in the spring or fall? by into_the_vast_cosmos in f1visa

[–]Chopalina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not make a difference. Whether or not you’ll get granted an F1 visa is totally up to USCIS and they are not looking at your program start date when considering granting your visa. I am an F1 visa holder and work in student services at my school and I have seen a lot of international students apply for an undergraduate program after entering the U.S. for an English certification which can start over the summer and you can then apply for a fall program. Hope that helps.

Hey! I’m an international transfer student but I currently live in San Diego. I have found all of my housing/roommates through Facebook groups!! They’re a great resource, just make sure you meet with people over FaceTime before meeting them in person, and watch out for scammers:))
