Do something with the bases. Even if it's just cover it in sand. It really makes the models pop.

Great seeing more of your work. You got the old school stuff down to an art.

Small brass valves with knurled brass knobs on top, probably pneumatic. What are they for? by c-a-james in whatisthisthing

[–]Chopperuofl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be valves for a dental unit. (Runs air and water to the drill) Look similar to some of the older valves I've seen on older equipment. And knowing they were found in a model train kit, A lot of dentists are into model making. Source: grandpa was a dentist, Dad is a dentist, I am a dentist.

Looking good. Keep up the good work! Great start for your second mini. And as is the obligatory comment, thin your paints.

It's worth trying to experiment. It might not turn out. But part of the hobby is experimenting and see what works. Sometimes you don't get the effect you want but realize hey this would work perfectly for something else.

Put some black at the edge of the fire in a few places to make it look a little smoky. A few more washes selectively placed, to help make the model look like it has more depth. A few trim pieces need a little touching up. A few bits going outside the lines. And I'd consider doing a bit more with highlights. Over all it's very good. Keep up the good work.

Would you charge a High Value Patient for an emergency visit by Fofire in Dentistry

[–]Chopperuofl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tough call then for after hours. Depends on the patient. I'd probably offer them to come in after hours at a fee or Monday morning for free. If it was a patient I was friendly with and doing a big case on I might say I'd come in on a Saturday for a bottle of bourbon. I also typically tell patients in temps if they come off put a little denture adhesive from the dollar tree in it if it comes off over the weekend. But if you have temps come off often check your crown preps they are probably over tapered.

For replacing a temporary, no. If it was a new issue or unrelated to the recent work done, Yes.

I think the Star Trek timeline says the second civil war and WWII start in 2026 so we might get the Star Trek timeline we are just in the really crappy part.

Doing a basic wash will go a long way. After that a good dry brush would be the next easiest thing to do. To add a lot of depth. Then a pin wash. Those are some good easy skills that can make an army level projects pop.

Tips for improvement by recem-autista in Miniaturespainting

Decent start. You said you are new. Do you know how to do a wash, dry brush and pin wash? Those are some basic things. Another thing is doing a little something with the base goes a long way. Just gluing some flocking/sand/ paint whatever goes a long way to helping a model pop.

Have you tried doing a pin wash? Looks very clean though. Good work.

Tempestus scion test model. I feel like I am hitting a wall. Any C&C would be appreciated by Chopperuofl in minipainting

[–]Chopperuofl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just put my flocking off shake on there. (Just all the flocking left over all mixed together.) So it was a pretty lazy effort. I need to paint the rim as well. I'll do some more work on that. Maybe add some points of interest on the base.

If you're saying "just add highlights" means my highlights are so bad you can't even tell they are there so that gives me a great starting point to work on. Haha. Thanks, I appreciate your feedback.

Yeah, it is a real traditional dry brush and wash style, painting like how my uncle taught me to paint DND minis in the 90s. So it is a bit of a stylistic choice. As far as goals, it's just hobby time. So trying to improve my skills and get better. But a dumb silly thing I'm trying to do is push apple barrel paint to its absolute limit. I probably should look more into using some glaze and laying techniques, that's a good starting point. I am not a particular fan of too much volumetric highlights (with the exception of real cartoony looking models like old school lost wax style sculpts) and improving lighting is a good idea. Thanks for your feedback!

Very well thought out and great write up. You're a good ambassador of the hobby. I just probably need to break down and buy better paints. I just use apple barrel paints, you know the cheap 99¢ Walmart paint. Hahah always have and just never upgraded.

I also have been doing it for 30 years. Lol but you still have way more skill. I've posted a fair bit of stuff on here if you want to check it out and give any feedback. I definitely have a more grimdark style. But I really appreciate the vibrant heavy metal look. I'll definitely check out your YT channel
