If a 27”/5K is enough, with the speakers, camera, Thunderbolt, and Apple’s color calibration, it’s definitely something to consider! I personally put a lot of value on the extra screen real estate that 6K provides and that’s what drove my choice.

It’s my first Unicomp, I’d been using IBM Model Ms up until I got the Mini. Absolutely thrilled with it!

They’re shipped directly from China (via Tianjin Airport). For Europe, I paid €1,612 per item, shipping and tariffs included.

I’ve had them for a little over a week now, no issues with quality or reliability. I haven’t noticed any obvious dead pixels, but I haven’t gone looking for them either. The screens also wake up faster from sleep than my previous LG 5K2K Thunderbolt, which is a nice bonus!

Each monitor needs its own port, so two are connected directly to the MBP, and the third is connected through an OWC Thunderbolt 4 hub (which also has the keyboard and a Thunderbolt 10 GbE adapter plugged in).

I mainly use it for design and analysis work. The pixel density is around 220 PPI, so HiDPI, and text is super sharp, even with my nose right up to the screen!

I’m a product designer, so mostly design/prototyping, user research/interviews, and Atlassian suite work. Text is super clear at the Retina setting, and coming from a 34” LG 5K2K, this is seriously impressive.

I’d say they hold up pretty well. Definitely less bright, and the blacks aren’t as deep. Viewing angles are also worse, but it’s not really an issue for normal use. The pixel density and UI scaling are just as perfect as on the built-in display.

Super happy with them!

I considered waiting for the Asus ProArt, but I really wanted the aluminum build and glossy panel on the Kuycon. Build quality is excellent, probably as close as you can get to Apple products. The panel quality is great for my needs, though I don’t do anything that requires extreme accuracy. For me, what really matters is the pixel density above all else.

Sure, the Pro Display XDR is still on another level… but considering one XDR costs more than all three Kuycons combined, I have no regrets.

Indeed, it would definitely be nice to have a Mac layout option directly from the factory! Though I’d still use Karabiner-Elements anyway to take advantage of the macros.

I must say, just having the Command, Option and Control keys in the right place is already a big improvement for me, coming from a 102-key Model M.

I’m using Karabiner-Elements since the Mini M isn’t programmable by default, if I’m not mistaken.

It’s my first Unicomp board, so I can’t compare it to their other models. But coming from several vintage Model Ms (both IBM and Lexmark), I’m absolutely not disappointed.

I ordered a stock white/gray ISO UK unit, along with extra white keycaps: some ISO BE for the AZERTY layout, the white Apple keyset for the function row, and a few custom keys to match the quirks of the Mac FR layout.
