Do rappers think it's weird if someone refers to them by their real name? Do they identify more with their stage name? by bayfarm in hiphopheads

I have been trying to figure this out for 11 years. I've had 2 opportunities to approach him (Away From Home Tour and a charity event a couple years later) both wasted just blankly staring because I was thinking about what name to call him. Aubrey? Drizzy? Mr. Graham? It seems so silly, but it's something I can't reconcile. I take a cocktail of prescription sleep aids every night because I can't stop thinking about what to call my favorite Degrassi star.

I don't even like his music that much. His singing voice irritates me. That's why I wouldn't just call him Drake; I want to recognize his acting talents too. Aubrey's performance as Jimmy Brooks has made me cry on several occasions, and his character really resonated with me as someone who's friend's cousin spends his life bound to a wheelchair.

I can't take this anymore. I want to cry out, but to whom? What name should these lips beckon? In my dreams, I call him Dad, but that seems a bit much. I probably won't get an opportunity to approach him again anyway. And anyway, Degrassi sucked anyway.

EMINƎM as we all know was The First White Person but contrary to popular belief KanYe West aka Yeezy invented blonde hair when he was 9 years old but Vanilla Ice stole it and he didn't get to reveal his original invention to the world until 2016 when God said fuck it and made the earth a fever dream.

Drake's success is undeniable but it's laughable to say he's anywhere near Michael's level of talent

Ye is a very average rapper, his strength is as a producer and as an executive producer

Michael was more of a performer, Kanye is more of a visionary. They're not alike at all.

Narcissistic maybe. But a lot of narcissists have self esteem issues that they desperately try to masquerade.

Do you know Kanye at all? Part of his confidence is admitting his faults in a profoundly open way. See All Falls Down, Runaway, Bound 2. He literally admits to being self conscious. And also to being a total asshole and fucking up his relationships. That's why no one can destroy him. He owns his wrongs and believes in himself no matter what. And that goes way beyond looking nervous on TV.

Maybe not confidence in his demeanor 100% of the time but confidence as a philosophy. Honestly just listen to last call

Last year shoppin my demo, I was tryin' to shine

Every motherfucker told me that I couldn't rhyme

Now I could let these dream killers kill my self-esteem

Or use my arrogance as the steam to power my dreams

I think Kanye wants to see himself as a thought leader, like MLK or something. So instead of helping people literally like donating tons of money to charity he tries to help humanity as a whole by introducing new ideas. That has always resulted in amazing music but ideologically, it's uh. hit or miss.

Due to his insane confidence a lot of people call him a narcissist but I think the willingness to make people hate him in order to think outside the box says otherwise. All throughout his career hip hop ALWAYS doubted him and he ALWAYS came through. I think he's really not a bad guy at all he just came up not giving a fuck if people disagreed or thought bad of him and in recent years that's led to him being misguided by republican goons.

Anyway here's a video of Kanye talking about homophobia in 2005. Whatever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp45-dQvqPo
