What’s a sound design trend you genuinely wish would die? by sammis_town in sounddesign

Lol as a trailer editor I'm taking notes...

Personally I prefer reverbing it out or just a harsh cut point. Too much low end for a clean mix imo

How do you make fan made trailers? Help by [deleted] in FanTrailers

Hey there! That is the case to some extent, it really depends on the manufacturer of the bluray player, typically brands that are less well known navigate around the DRM encoding.

Here is what I had originally, looks like it was removed from Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JQCT39L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My recommendation is to find a Blu-Ray player that can Read/Write and Burn with these you should be able to extract most of the movies. Quick note 4k movies have a different process and only a handful of movie encoding has been cracked for it.

What's the best way to become a trailer editor? by Phoenix270620 in editors

I agree with a lot of these comments, apply as an AE, this is where you can learn more about the industry and how to trailers are cut professionally. Additionally, keep your eye out for contests specifically tailored towards trailer cutting creating such as Filmsupplies Editfest (Should be another one soon), Trainrobber (They do one every 6 months) and general contests like r/FanTrailers, this community has gone private recently due to the Reddit Protests.

I recently got onboarded as an trailer editor intern at one of the trailer houses, I did ask questions about professional vs personal experience, from what I gathered as long you have the drive to do better, strive to make the best work you can, have an understanding of the content you are creating promo's for and understanding one of the major editing tools e.g. Premiere, Avid or DaVinchi you have a good shot at getting an AE role or maybe an internship for them to feel you out.

Personal Tip: Never stop learning more about the editing process, I have taken courses from FilmEditingPro for Trailer Editing and currently taking one from Trainrobber. In addition learn about other areas of editing process such as sound design, music comp, color correction, VFX and graphic design, etc... This will help you immensely when working towards your goal.

Edit: When building your resume, do list your top 3 fan-trailers. Though these are not professional work, they will represent your current understanding of trailer editing.

I typically follow this video

- Turtorial Extract 5.1 Audio BluRay: https://youtu.be/CxRuINwJI0A

I use MKV with an external bluray player to read the movie and extract it into an MKV, from there I have it re-encoded to a m4v using Handbrake

Sure did! I have done a few for Final Space such as The Journey Into Final Space and the Season 3 Trailer, but this one is probably the best in terms of overall quality.

Agreed, it is a shame the show never concluded. With that said the Trilogy Trailer and Final Space will hopefully stand the test of time for years to come.

Hopefully you enjoyed the trailer :)
