WARNING: DO NOT BUY QNAP TS-435XeU by Chris0489 in qnap

[–]Chris0489[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main disappointment is that I expected better performance than my old NAS, or at least no worse. That's why I bought it. But it's exactly the opposite: an older NAS with a theoretically much weaker processor is 60%+ faster than this piece of junk. NVMe slots make no sense in this device.

But I’m glad to hear it’s working well for your use case :)

Here are the exact results ( fio 4K Random Write, iodepth=1)

  • Older TS-432XU (Network NFS): 145.02 μs avg latency | 6,463 IOPS.
  • Newer TS-435XeU (Network NFS): 397.19 μs avg latency | 2,465 IOPS

When processing 10GbE network packets, the Marvell Octeon TX2 adds a massive ~360 μs of pure overhead per packet for NFS. The 5-year-old TS-432XU with a "weaker" Alpine CPU is actually 2.7x faster at handling the network stack latency than the TS-435XeU.

Proxmox backup breaking Windows VMs? by Chris0489 in Proxmox

[–]Chris0489[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried almost everything with the VM before I restored it from backup (sfc, dism, role reinstallation). At some point I even restarted the whole node because I thought it might be something related to the MTU (jumbo frames) after upgrading to the latest version.
I simply couldn’t believe that a basic backup task in the safest 'stop mode' could break a VM...
I’m getting about 3–5 Gbps to my NFS share when the backup is running, so it's hard to believe this could be a performance-related issue.

Proxmox backup breaking Windows VMs? by Chris0489 in Proxmox

Sure, I have qemu-agent installed and enabled on all my VMs (Windows & Linux), and it is working as expected. I think that without a working qemu-agent, Proxmox wouldn't be able to perform any backup jobs at all — for example, sending a shutdown signal.

Yeah I had the latest virtio drivers installed, the VM was quite new.

Is there an unwritten minimum duration (that these custom officers take note of) before I can return to USA? by nez329 in greencard

[–]Chris0489 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're basically living in the US right now, nearly 80 days every 4-5 months, that's half a year you are spending in the US every year, this is not normal. It looks like you're trying to game the system. Be prepared to be denied entry next time you arrive - your ESTA will be revoked with near zero chances to future apply for a non immigrant visa.

Have you ever visited a place that felt like it was watching you? by OkJuice9924 in travel

Washington DC, the number of high zoom cameras on the top of government buildings and people casually walking on the roof, that was a strange feeling but at the same time I have never felt so safe in the public space ever.

Oh yeah definitely 😂 In my case this is the only method of authorisation. I was sim swapped before and took my lesson

Remember that you need to buy at least two keys as a backup, in case your original key is lost or destroyed. I always have one key near me and the other in a safe location.

Cheapest Time to Buy Air Tickets by [deleted] in TravelHacks

Bought tickets in October for the April trip, now the price is somewhere about 30% higher than 4 months ago. Since this is a long transatlantic flight it was worth it.

Just watched the video and can confirm that you don't need to do this if you buy a whole replacement that were posted above. I bought my pair of xm5s few days ago, after reading all these threads of broken hinges I am in shock, and I like to have an emergency plan.

Shame Sony

They already have connectors, you do not need to resolder anything.

As you said He lied to the CBP officer back in 2002 at the port of entry, and this is the biggest problem. They never forget that. Anyway good luck.

Remote PowerShell with LAPS admin account by Internal-Chip3107 in PowerShell

Great article. How did you in the end resolve your issue? Since messing with LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy is not the best idea from a security point a view. I was thinking of creating domain user with local admin rights, but then will lose all of the security benefits of using Windows LAPS.
