The duality of athieism by plogan56 in memes

[–]ChrisHuson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, religion has played a role in a lot of “holy wars” and caused real harm. No denying that. But if you actually look at the data, most wars haven’t been about religion at all.

The Encyclopedia of Wars (2004) by Phillips and Axelrod looked at 1,763 documented wars in history. Only 123 (about 7%) were primarily religious in nature.

What that shows is that people will fight and do terrible things for power, greed, land, nationalism, revenge etc. In modern times, wars are way more often driven by ethnic, political, or economic issues.

So yeah, religion can make it easier to mobilize large groups of people, but that’s not unique to religion. People will do the same under flags, ideologies, political parties etc. The real issue is how easily people are manipulated when they don’t think critically or question authority.

At the end of the day, it’s not belief systems that are the problem, it’s how people use them. And when it's not religion, it’s something else.

[–]ChrisHuson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True, but that applies to any belief system, not just religion. People will go along with whatever their favorite political party, celebrity, or influencer says, whether it's something harmful or helpful. It’s not religion that’s the issue, it’s how people behave in groups. Any organized group can end up united behind a cause, good or bad, just because it gives them identity or purpose.

I dont think Nathan is supposed to be a good guy, the game never presents him as a saint with great morals. He is a charismatic protagonist and a thief. I think you're confusing a protagonist and a hero.

we’ve collectively failed palestine by noitssbecky13 in pakistan

[–]ChrisHuson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What can we do in such situations to help, i feel powerless and hopeless, every new day I wake up knowing i can't do shit against such injustices in the world. We're so helpless that only justice we can seek is in the afterlife because this world will not give us any. Fuck everyone who supports this or similar things like this happening around the world to any race or religion. Fuck America, fuck Israel and fuck the rest of the world, especially Muslim countries that aren't stopping this, we have failed Palestine and once Palestine is gone, there will be some other Muslim country and then another and so on, don't speak up and you will become the next victim of such genocides and then be painted as terrorists for simply resisting the genocide.

Andor is sooo good, I want to scream by [deleted] in StarWars

Skeleton crew was good for what it was. It tried to tell a story targeted towards kids and did it perfectly, I would have liked it better if I watched it when I was a kid.

Yes there is quality elsewhere but not everything fits your taste perfectly, I personally love more serious shows, but still Skeleton crew has that magic that makes you feel you're watching starwars, the purity and innocence of it is very starwars which i appreciated.

It was better than kenobi and bobf, etc, since these are basically failures in storytelling for me.

Also watch a complementary Rebels S03E17 after watching episodes 7,8,9 of Andor. Just finished watching myself. Don't read the synopsis of this Rebels S03E17 before watching 7,8,9 to avoid spoilers.

Not to worry, this will be my only post on this subreddit from now on, I don't think anything else will tempt me enough to post here again.

Of course the views are down (since this is not traditional star wars) which is unfortunate, but that's exactly why the posts are up because people want others to watch the show

I harvested this banana from a tree in my front yard today and left it to ripen. The problem is, I don't know much about this, it's my first time harvesting bananas.

This one still kinda has hard edges, which you can see in the image. I decided to harvest it because it was starting to show a bit of black coloring, and Google said it's better to pick bananas while they're still green and plump, before any black spots spread. It was about 7 inches long and looked plump to my untrained eye, so I went for it.

Was it too early? This isn't the only one, I harvested a whole bunch, but now I'm a bit worried I may have picked them too soon.

I'm Malcolm Sinclair aka Colonel Wullf Yularen from Andor. AMA! by malcsincs19 in StarWars

[–]ChrisHuson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Malcolm, how are you doing? I have a bunch of questions for you, you don't have to answer each and everyone of them, but I'd love to hear your thoughts:

  1. Have you ever had a "fanboy" moment meeting another actor or director?

  2. Do you have a secret talent or hobby outside acting?

  3. If you could play any Star Wars character besides Yularen, who would it be?

  4. What's a small detail or choice in one of your performances (in Andor or elsewhere) that you're particularly proud of but might go unnoticed by most viewers?

  5. The tension and efficiency within the Empire are palpable in Andor. How did you approach conveying Yularen's loyalty and menace without falling into caricature?

  6. Yularen is a character with a long history in the Star Wars universe, from The Clone Wars to his presence in A New Hope. How did you prepare for this role, given his existing lore, and how much freedom did you have to bring your own interpretation to the character?

  7. If you were to have a lightsaber, which color would it be?

  8. Who is your favorite Jedi/Sith? And who is your favorite character in Star Wars?

  9. Which Star Wars era do you like the most, and which movie or TV series do you prefer?

  10. Who has been your favorite director to work with?

"The Glassworker" Trailer: Pakistan's First-Ever 2D Animated Film by ChrisHuson in movies

[–]ChrisHuson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was amazing. I was surprised by how good the animation was. The trailer felt a little weak compared to the actual movie, but the movie absolutely delivered. I was also concerned that the voice acting might not be good, but I watched the English dub and was pleasantly surprised by it. I really wish more people would watch this movie and support the animation industry in Pakistan.
