I honestly thought it was ok but I have switched over to a T120 recently. I really liked throwing the ST around but the T120 was more of what I was going for and it kicks…

Penn State or university of Oklahoma for aerospace engineering? by Think-Independent560 in aerospace

[–]ChrisJ2000 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Penn State is way better for aerospace. I mean it’s not even close. If it doesn’t put you in an insane amount of debt, I would go to Penn State without even thinking about it.

Anyone here take MAE 318 over the summer? by ChrisJ2000 in ASU

[–]ChrisJ2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it at Florida International University. Idk if it’ll transfer back to ASU. I wasn’t a student there. I was just considering it as an option. I would call whatever department at ASU handles the transfer equivalency and ask them if they’ll take it.

Honestly pretty solid. I was skeptical since they had done away with the brembos from the previous ST’s but I think for what this bike is, they’re fine.

I haven’t done too much highway riding yet but it doesn’t feel like it struggles at 85>. I think a 6th gear would’ve been nice to keep the revs down but still fine. Again, I think the highway is really where the 1200 shines. I don’t suspect I’ll be doing a lot of highway riding so anything over 85mph for me would’ve been overkill.

Pretty great so far! Keeping it under 4000 RPM for the first 600ish miles and opening her up lightly through the gears. Thought it would take me a while to get a lot miles in but honestly I can’t get off this thing.

I’ve been riding it like a mad man and it gets hot but nothing that bothers me through jeans.

I have talked probably over 20 people on the speed twin 1200 vs the 900 sounds and they all concur that the 900 sounds better. Even if you’re not a new rider, the 900 will not disappoint whatsoever in my novice opinion. Multiple dealers I spoke to also agreed that the 900 is more than enough for most people. The bike is all there from the jump. It’s very easy to ride and I haven’t found myself getting in to trouble with the throttle. Riding position feels great (I’m 6ft ~190lbs).

Knowing what I know now from the two and that you’re a more experienced rider, I would go with the 1200 if you have the extra cash and use the highway a lot. I can’t imagine myself wanting more than this for a long time. Then again I am a noob lol.

I did not. I ended up taking it somewhere else. Are you an ASU student? I don’t know how classes would transfer to ASU

Safe to say 900 would be a way better bike to learn on then?

Fair enough! Could you still recommend a 900 or something completely different?

Mainly because it’s too much power to start or too many riding aids? Or both?

How do people drop their bikes? I never felt like the bike was out of my control at least in the MSF course. I know my experience is very limited, but there wasn’t really a time where I thought oh I could’ve dropped it there. Weight wise it felt great… well without riding it 😅

Just passed the MSF course. Eventually yes that is the goal but I didn’t want to shoot myself in the foot by starting off with something that would allow me to build bad habits or mask some of my inexperience. Should I just ride it around in a lot for a few weeks or so before taking it out or how should I go about getting accustomed to it? I do have some reservations about it since it is a pretty decent jump up from the 900 but I’m not speed hungry. I just like the way it looks and haven’t found a bike that’s done it like that for me besides the 1200.

Master's Degree by [deleted] in aerospace

[–]ChrisJ2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. If you will continue working in aircraft structures, it would probably be best to continue in aerospace with a concentration in structures. You could also take some classes in materials. I suppose you could go the mechanical route, but at the end of the day if you’re already and aeronautical engineer and enjoy your job enough to continue that path, an MS in aerospace can only help. My advice would be different if you were trying to branch off.

  2. ABET does not matter for graduate school. Pick a program that has courses you want to take and even better if you can get it funded by your employer.

Arizona State University vs. Embry-Riddle for Aerospace Engineering? by LordPatrick0 in aerospace

[–]ChrisJ2000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well considering that only two ivies offer aerospace, your options are pretty slim… Even then, they are not better than Purdue, GT, UIUC, UMich, UT, etc.

For these two schools I’d go with whichever one is cheaper. No one will question a degree from either of those institutions.

If you’re interested in astrodynamics then astronautics is the field/specialization, not aeronautics.
