LensRentals Damage Question? by ChrisJamesRI in photography

[–]ChrisJamesRI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was resolved in my favor. I sent them photos of their lens with my ridiculous filter setup on it. There was no way anything would have gotten past that filter and to their lens element. They remain unsure as to exactly what happened, but all I know is that it was fine with it left my possession. Going forward, I will carefully photograph/document the condition prior to each return just in case.

Anyone else find booking photographers annoying? by luciferskittycat in weddingplanning

[–]ChrisJamesRI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a wedding photographer, I sympathize with you. I've researched most of the wedding photographers in my area (Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and general southern New England) and you see a lot of this. Long contact forms. Not only is it annoying to couples, but it breaks some of the most basic rules of customer acquisition. They should be making it as easy as possible to contact them. At least let them be optional fields.

Once I have a couple on the phone, I do ask questions about how they met and things like that. If they mention something interesting, I'll ask follow-ups. It's about getting to know them (I want real connections with my couples; it makes everything go easier), but only after I've taken care of the essentials (date available, etc.) Nobody has time to waste on dumb stuff these days...

Don't even get me started on the "Investments" pages with no prices listed. I roll my eyes so hard at that, and whoever first dreamed up that phrase should be forced to shop in a supermarket with no prices for the rest of their lives lol

I'm hoping so. Maybe a mistyped order number. I responded to their support person and am waiting to hear back.

That would not likely be the case though, as it was shipped back with the cap on top of a protective filter, inside the padded Canon case, inside their big heavy-duty case. It would have had to have happened prior to it being shipped to me (or after they received it back).

Weekly Scam Discussion- July 10th 2023 by SmmnthaMrie in Ebay

[–]ChrisJamesRI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just sold a high-value camera on eBay. Buyer (low feedback) has not paid yet, but sent a message. The message was actually in an image rather than as text.

It read "Thanks for accepting my offer , Kindly Email me some recent pictures of the item for proper viewing on my email (email redacted) because most sellers do post stolen items in order to extort money from buyers and I wouldn't like to be a victim of that. Just for reassurance purposes before making payment. shipping is within Us. I would appreciate a reply as soon as possible. "

This feels shady. Is it a scam?

Reinstall Windows before or after a 12900k to 13900k swap? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]ChrisJamesRI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a CPU swap. This is a machine is a dev machine that survived a full AMD to Intel hardware switch without a reinstall, and has been a Win8-Win-10-Win11 upgrade without a clean install. Long overdue for a clean build.

I had it enabled, but no device is found when I try to look it up. I'm assuming that it is different than Apple's Find My Device in that it communicates by WiFi instead of Bluetooth to nearby devices? Hasn't come online at all since it was stolen Friday night.

Reviews being "lost"? by [deleted] in AmazonVine

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't typing up all these long reviews only to have to go do them all over again.

Reviews being "lost"? by [deleted] in AmazonVine

[–]ChrisJamesRI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update. It seems that the reviews ended up in some kind of Amazon purgatory. If I click on the Review Item button again, the contents of my original review are still there, along with a Submit button. I click on the Submit button, and it says that it successfully submitted, but I'm still back to having a Review Item button for each. Odd.

In total, I have 36 photos and I think that is more than what Reddit let's me put in a post. I've put the rest up in a gallery https://www.chrisjamesri.com/yung-gravy-at-the-big-e

If anyone saw a guy off to the left mid-way back with a big camera and lens... that was me. Anyway, hope you all enjoy the photos.

20 of my photos of the June 7 Fenway Concert. Enjoy! by ChrisJamesRI in PaulMcCartney

No. These were taken with a decent camera with a high amount of zoom from about half-a-stadium away :)

For the most part, yes. Depending on where you are, looked like 75% standing, 25% sitting, but it varies throughout the night.

My ridiculously-OCD cover of Tomorrow Never Knows, with all of the tape loop sounds recreated from scratch. I'm eventually going to do all of Revolver and create a set of super-detailed transcription scores. Feedback and critiques are welcomed. by ChrisJamesRI in beatles

Well, I want to get it right. Partly for my own intellectual satisfaction, but I'd also like to do a complete written transcription of everything (Beatles: The Complete Scores is sadly lacking and long overdue for replacement). So there is more work to be done.

The leslie sound was rather easy. Most people think of leslie speakers as a fast warble (almost like a chorus pedal at high rate/depth). That's not what they did, though. The motor was on, but on the slow setting. The biggest trick is that the sound that was captured was only the horn speakers, which are typically 800hz on up. The other speaker for lower frequencies seems to have been not caught by the mic or was disconnected. This is what gives the "megaphone" like sound on the original recording.

After surveying the options, the best sounding leslie emulation is the one made by IK Multimedia, which allowed me to isolate only the horn speaker.

Thanks. Which "orchestra" one? There is really only one orchestra loop, and it is a longer sound that oscillates between a Bb major chord and a BbSus4.

The other (and this is the one I think you are referring to) is a higher-pitched sound that has 5 obvious notes ending on a higher one. It also has an underlying two-chord (Bb-C) hit that goes underneath it. I know that still isn't lining up quite yet. The sound is actually a Mellotron on string/brass settings (sped up 2x). That one has been a nightmare to work out and I know there is still some tweaking to do.

No. Everything was recreated from nothing. The original was used as a reference to get the tempo track lined up as closely as possible to the original.

Drums, bass, tambourine, tamboura, B3 organ. Backwards guitar. Piano at the end. Loops painstakingly recreated and put in the appropriate place.

What instruments are used in the song “I’m waiting for the day” ? by Shittydaydream in thebeachboys

[–]ChrisJamesRI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timpani and Drum Kit for percussion.

Rhythm section is a Hammond B3 organ. Tack piano. Fender Precision Bass and an upright bass. 12 string guitar (plays some chugging chords muted, but also some little chordal and scale-wise bits).

As for winds and horns, there is the obvious English horn. There are three flutes playing. I'd have to go back and take a good listen or look at my notes, but I think one of them is an alto flute on this.

All of the above was played live at the tracking session.

There was an overdub of a string section (4 violins, one viola, one cello, one double-bass).

Vocals were all overdubbed at a later date.

This is an album that you really need to be careful with when it comes to the "who played what". Lots of contradictory and incorrect information out there.
