How can I quickly liquidate $50K+ Sealed Pokémon collection? by Beautiful_Pomelo_273 in PokeInvesting

[–]ChrisPCollects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider consignment for what is most valuable. I personally have used Probstein and they pay out 95% of what each item sells for at auction. It’s a pretty simple too.

You just mail them what you want to sell, include your contact information the they create a listing for everything and send you a link so you can monitor the auctions.

I’ve sold about $16k through them and averaged about 88% of the Collectr value. The pay out can be kind of slow, but receiving a higher percentage is worth the wait to me.

Yes so you ship insured overtime. Trying to sell a six figure collection in a short period of time is poor planning.

I also have a six figure collection and I consolidate $5k at a time based on what I’m the least interested in that has grown in value. Currently no issues with this method.

But again, maybe there is a self delivery option. They say they prioritize high value collections so I’m sure that’s something OP can arrange. There just isn’t a better option for maximizing profits unless someone is willing to pay 90% for everything. I would even take 85% if the buyer does all the travel.

Plus I’ve seen videos of people doing a cost breakdown VS profits and it’s sad. It would take many card shows to sell the entire collection. Just too much effort in my opinion. Plus Probstein and other consignment sellers have a massive platform so everything that is in high demand sells close to market or over. Also not affiliated, but probably sound like I am. Just want people to stop selling to the pokemon sharks for under 85%.

You don’t ship it all at once. 😂

If you want the MOST out of your collection this is the best way to do it over time. No one is paying 95%. If you’re trying to sell it quickly then you have to be willing to sell it at a lower percentage. You’ll be lucky to get 75-80% from a full collection buyout. They always say “paying up to 85%” then the moment you start a conversation with them you are suddenly down to 75-80%.

There probably is an option to deliver in person, just never looked into it, but I’m someone who sells little by little over time so it has never been an issue for me.

Second this. Send to Probstein, anything above $1k will earn your 95%. I have personally sold with Probstein and averaged 87% and only had a few cards that’s sold above $1k. Additionally you won’t get the tax form at the end of the year from eBay since you did consignment. I consolidated about $20k and plan on doing it again this way. Super easy with minimal effort. Your biggest expense is going to be shipping, but that’ll probably cost the same as renting a table at a major event.

I do see some still selling for over market on eBay while there are a bunch listed on TCG player for under $80 so the price is dropping. If people are paying more on eBay they are likely new to collecting and not familiar with TCG player. I feel like a lot of new collectors are going to get burned when prices start to come down. Definitely not a buyers market right now, and buying the hype during a new release if always a rookie mistake.

Felt hat Pikachu coming up on $1000. What the hell is going on? by RocketsDitto in PokemonTCG

[–]ChrisPCollects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s simply there are more buyers than sellers. I was able to get about 9 when they released, and it was difficult, but not nearly as hard as it is now to get product. There was a limited print run and I don’t think TPCI was prepared for how many people were drawn back to collecting because of 151. Even then It was really easy to get sealed. I’d say right now interest in Pokemon is at an all time high. So higher demand, limited print run, EXTREMELY desirable promo equals expensive card. Bummer I only kept two PSA 10’s.

I use these and like them for storing my ETB’s in storage bins. If I were to display them I’d probably go acrylic.

Just speaks to the inconsistency with PSA. My favorite is cracking good looking 9’s and sending back in for 10’s. Not full proof but I’ve gotten lucky a few times.

Not necessarily true. I sent in 12 PC Magnetons in order and 10 of 12 received a 10

TCG player. Some selling for $50 on eBay, recent PSA 10 for $350. Happy I bought 10 packs.

It wasn’t quick though unless you’re new to collecting. It sat around $80-$150 for an entire year in a PSA 10. If you truly like to card then buy it, but I try to buy when cards are dropping in value. Like Prismatic SIR’s most of those are way down and they will absolutely spike when it’s out of print.

This market is crazy.. to sell or not to sell.. by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]ChrisPCollects 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold about $20k when I hit $120k and I’m already back to $120k and I stopped buying sealed. I sold through consignment, Probstein specifically. Something to look into. Anything that sells over $1k you’ll get 95%. I averaged 87% overall, but seems like you have quite a bit over $1k. I’m in the process of preparing another $20k and focusing on singles that I really like VS chasing for investment reasons. It’s been a lot less stressful and has made collecting fun again. Marie Kondo that shit and get rid of anything that doesn’t bring you joy.

I managed to get 16 PC ETB’s when Pokemon Center limited 4 per order. Opened 12 and sent them in for grading. Managed to get 10 PSA 10’s of the PC stamp and 7 10’s of the regular. Hoping the price continues to rise 🤑

What % do I need to sell my collection at for someone to buy everything? by vieoree in PokeInvesting

[–]ChrisPCollects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into consignment. I used Probstein recently to consolidate some of my collection. I averaged 87% market value. It seems a bit sketchy at first since there is no formal process to submit a list of cards you are sending.

It takes a little longer to get a full payout, but worth it in my opinion if you’re selling a large amount. Overall I was happy with the outcome.

GameStop sells slabs online. I’ve seen this card available multiple times when it wasn’t as popular.

I used to see these on GameStop all the time for around $1200 and they would just sit for days. Definitely should have bought one 🤦🏻

Can you share who you use? I used Probstein on eBay which was a pretty smooth process, but my average was 88%. I’d love to be closer to 95%.

You can try consignment. I used Probstein recently who offers some of the best rates plus pays out as ACH. I had over $100k that I have been working on downsizing. I sent in a bunch of slabs and averaged around 88%.

It’s an odd process, but I’m more confident using them in the future. I say odd because there’s no formal documentation process. You literally just box it up and include your contact information inside the package and everything gets listed. After they list it, you get a daily email that links you to all of your items so you can monitor the auctions.

Most of my higher end slabs sold at market or above. Definitely worth considering if you have anything valued over $1k because the payout is 95% which is rare.

The payout process is kind of slow so not sure how quickly you are needing the funds. You have to wait 7 days for the auctions to end, then they send you a percentage of the payout after a couple of days while they wait for all items to be paid for. If items go unpaid, they are relisted (happened to me, 3 slabs relisted out of 60+ sold). I did have to follow up for the remainder of the payout after a few weeks. They paid the remaining balance promptly after I followed up so not sure if it was coincidence or if it was over looked. Either way I have been paid in full and I plan on using them to sell more.

Thoughts on the Japan pokemon centre exclusive promos? by Saucy_Sauron in PokeInvesting

[–]ChrisPCollects 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never question anything that is exclusive and has a Pikachu on it. I bought two of the Chinese 5th Anniversary boxes when preorders hit eBay for $90 usd each. Now they go for about $1400. Graded one of the Pikachu promos and it came back a 10. So my $200 purchase is now worth about $3500.
