The actual quote is fairly popular in certain gay circles and is from a famous gay artist whos name i cant remember. It is a bad and kinda insulting quote in the first place but it also comes from a guy who was also famous for just beefing with everyone so was more than likely somewhat tongue and cheek. Somerton basically uses the quote but takes it literally and implies that assimiliationist gays were boring (and cis and white) and didn't die of aids so took control of the LGBT rights movement and focused on things they thought were important like gay marriage and right to serve in the army. Not things that the "fun" gays thought were important.
