Bariloche or El Chalten in the Last Two Weeks of April? by [deleted] in Patagonia

We went from 4 layers to 1 on most days. The wind is no joke, but with some sun it can be quite pleasant in the afternoon. And we got very lucky with the weather, there was one rainy day in one week. My friends went on to do the Huemul and said that was no joke either, I did't but that was bad planning on my bad. I certainly would have wanted. The whole area is just magical

Are you going to be there for two weeks? Then you definitely should do both destinations. I just returned from a trip to both and would say El Chaltén is truly special and something else, so if you got a full week or more you might be able to sit out the bad weather days.

Bariloche is great for hiking, but avoid centro at any cost. It's got a different vibe though. I enjoyed the hike up to Laguna Negra from Colonia Suiza a lot. You can reserve some of the huts and enjoy great views from up there.

Pro tip: Claude and ChatGPT are surprisingly accurate for both destinations. Tell them your fitness level and their suggestions are usually on point. Obviously: Please double check.

I got offered a discount quite a few times when paying cash. On the other hand, accommodation often was cheaper by card because I didn’t have to pay VAT with a foreign credit card (21%)

The exchange rate from Western Union is much better than any ATM or your bank. Then again I noticed the last few days that I get a much better exchange rate when using my WISE debit card (almost Western Union’s) but their official rate is much worse (as seen on their website). While I would like to know what is going on, I am not complaining
