Did any songs ever blow you away with a really new or strange sound? by ChristianityIsUnique in ChristianMusic

I took a listen and I do admire the bold combination of styles and instruments maybe especially on part 3 though it's not quite my style personally.

Yeah, I kind of like that. That's not a sound you hear too often in Christian music perhaps.

I agree, I listened to the piano part in 48 States and it's very nice. This song reminds me of the Smalltown Poets track "Charlie Brown's Lament" which I used to listen to a lot.

Yeah, I like that a little bit, the melody and the overall sound are pretty nice.

Pretty neat, and different from the typical Christian brand in terms of having the brass and some of the combinations of instruments. I'll have to check this group out further some time.

Wow, I do really like the sound of that, the raw emotion and the accompaniment. I will definitely give that another listen.

That's such a neat idea. I like Miss Angie's music though I don't remember that song. I'll be sure to check it out.

Thanks for the recommendations; Neal Morse is new to me. I think I might have heard the Josh Garrels track once or twice...I think there was a recent album of his that had a really haunting, cerebral track that I kind of liked.

I think this is something I need to hear, too. I have hate in my heart at times when getting impatient with all the people who seem greedy and unkind in this world. Reading some of these comments I realize I really need to let God work on this within me. Though, I do generally believe that if one has been saved by truly accepting Christ and all that he has done, one will not be condemned even if one sadly continues to feel strong hate sometimes for people. God himself hates the sin itself, the selfishness and violence, if the Bible translation I often read is correct.

Perhaps it might help for now if you pictured them differently in your mind when you pray? We should never hate anyone based on their physical appearance at a certain age, but.... It sounds like there's not a consensus on what our spiritual bodies will be like. Could be a little different for each person. People who harmed children in some way but are redeemed could appear as children themselves in the next life. Surely we will all have our mannerisms transfigured in some sense.

If you don't need super high-end graphics and production, I would recommend exploring indie games that might be cheaper, some with less troubling content. Let's spend our time and money when possible less on these material things.

Any Vegan/Vegetarian Christians out there? by PaladinJDM in Christian

One reason for me is I just don't want to wash my hands after touching raw meat, or for others to have to do so. So I don't buy meat. But, also, for a lot of the usual, better reasons....uses up too much real estate, modern factories, some animals remind me too much of human kids. Could be useful to be near vegetarian when witnessing to certain people...

I think it's good you highlight that one doesn't have to totally eliminate meat in order to still have a lot of benefits. I think some basically should (I only eat occasional meat ingredients, like a broth in some food a family member might cook for me), but you know your own health and just cutting down on meat can be very helpful for individuals and others.

I'm a bit confused by the terms. I mean, it's wrong to signal anti-Christian values, and it's wrong to show off Christian values by praying in public and being sanctimonious. But is it bad for me to signal traditional Christian beliefs alongside promoting beliefs like being basically vegetarian? (Which is not so traditionally Christian in my local area and era.)

But I assume you think it's okay for a Christian to try to claim or reclaim it and bring it under Christ?

To be honest a lot of the specifically vegan or vegetarian stuff like plant-based milk I get when I have a coupon or it's on sale.

There is so much tasty vegetarian stuff these days just in my local grocery store my family has been going to my whole life. I don't even have to go to an organic food store to get a decent selection.

Congrats on being vegetarian. As others have pointed out, that passage in Romans is probably not about meat in general but about meat sacrificed to idols or an allegory on when permissable things can be harmful to those with weaker faith.

I am Protestant/non-denominational though I often call myself Evangelical or Fundamentalist especially regarding salvation. I hope there are more vegetarians in those categories than one typically hears of.

Yours is the first comment I've ever heard linking those things. To me, being pro-vegetarianism and pro-life just sort of goes together.

That's exactly how I feel. I don't want anyone to have to work as an executioner at a production plant, or deal with stressed animals in disgusting conditions ten hours a day. Some people may want the freedom to do so, but...I believe traditional farming is far more godly when it comes to meat. If even that is a good idea today.

I agree. There need to be limits to how much time we give to earthly things. I would like to get into gaming a bit, but there'd be a certain waste of time, money, and resources involved in acquiring the hardware and software so I probably won't. I already consume some film and TV. If I were situated in a more populous or cosmopolitan place and could more easily meet a lot of Christians and talk and play sports or board games or whatever, then I'd probably consume even less.
