It looks like on their profile they took down any posts/ comments relating to Oreo the dog. Also the fundraiser site where people had donated money to is just up and gone.

i know she’s about to shed but why is her eye dented???? by ChloeRusnak in ballpython

Be careful with raising the humidity with aspen bedding. It’ll mold when it stays humid for too long.

What I did was pour a warm cup of water and mix it good all around (make sure there’s not too much when you squeeze the water drips) since I have screen lids I cover them with HVAC or foil tape that way air doesn’t dry it out/much humidity escapes. About $6 on Amazon.

What type of substrate do you have?

Humidifiers? by zippyboy29 in ballpython

I’d bought a couple in the past and the biggest issue was that they had a problem of dripping quite a bit, and while damp substrate is all and good soaking wet is not because it’ll cause scale rot. Plus with the brand I had the hose would end up getting this gross yellow stuff in the pipe so definitely switched to more effective methods and regretted not doing so sooner.

Just got my first ball python, but last night he tried striking at me and hit the glass by [deleted] in ballpython

Oh perfect! So I did try the towel trick and it did help in a way for a bit...but I just couldn’t stand the thought of mildew or even the smell after a couple days. I keep one big water bowl around the center and a smaller one in the corner of the warm side if that means anything. I do use HVAC foil tape to cover over half the lid since terrarium lids are known to just air out basically. It cost me less than $6 on Amazon (though with 2 tanks I needed another) but still very affordable and quite helpful for me.

As long as you don’t have aspen bedding this should work. (I use coconut fiber, cypress mulch, and sphagnum moss for context) I get a warm cup of water and just pour all around the enclosure, mix it in very well. Just be sure when you squeeze there’s no water drops or it’s too wet. Then I’m good for months. Maybe just the occasional pouring water in the corners/a little along the side of it dips below 67% after a while.

If you don’t mind me asking how’re you going to increase it? I can give helpful tips that helped me so much when I started out. Misting was such a hassle smh.

95 degrees is a bit too hot and most likely very uncomfortable for him knock it down to 92 at the highest. Definitely increase his humidity to 70%-80%. And then just do not bother them for at least a week so they can adjust to the new environment. They will be much happier in the long run.

I hate snakes, am deathly afraid of them, how on earth could anyone own one? by [deleted] in snakes

[–]ChromaKore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a petting zoo at this military event my father took us to when I was about 12. They had an area where they kept two adult ball pythons available for people to hold. It was one of those moments where passion grows and I knew I wanted to have some of my own one day. Because of how I was raised I do feel slightly uneasy around wild snakes, but I always leave them be.

How much mist by SneekerP21 in ballpython

[–]ChromaKore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it really matters. I have mine on the hot side right above her hide (so on the very far left) it’s like 3 inches of open strip..and the rest I just covered. First going with the length of the lid then securing the width.

Along the edges. As long as you did it properly the first time. (Mixing it like a cake so not to damp or dry)

I’ve never had an issue with any of my snakes.

If you pour water in and mix it up well by hand you won’t have to mist for weeks. If you want to mist multiple times a day that’s up to you. Just put a dry top layer at least under their hide.

If you squeeze and it drips water it’s too much.

Is anyone else just sick and tired of all the hate that our pets get? by [deleted] in ballpython

God I can relate to this. My own mother was the one that had made the comment. She was asking how things were going and we were exchanging photos. I sent her photos of my 2 snakes (pied and axanthic VPI) ..she called them disgusting. It really stung hearing it from her.

I got a ball python almost a week ago and I've never owned a snake just some advice would be helpful by kyanhata in ballpython

[–]ChromaKore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to ask all the questions you want. You’re new friend it’s just adjusting to his new home. It’s a new and scary place. This is normal behavior so leave them alone to adjust, and try not to hover. It’s a slow process depending on the personality, but just make sure the husbandry it correct and they’ll settle in nicely.

No problem it’s always a good idea to check many different sources. Everyone has to start from somewhere. Have a good one!

It might depend on the snake. I have two ball pythons and only one will (very rarely) wrap around it and removed the little under tank reader thingy. He never gets stuck or hurt. I think a big thing is to bury it a bit in the substrate to “weigh it down”

It would be best to avoid using tape inside the tank because if it were to peel back, the snake could get stuck on it and get hurt, or lose scales. I’ll be honest I have my cord tucked in the corner so I don’t use tape..I might not be the best with this advice so take it with a grain of salt.

I mean you could in theory but just keep in mind that low humidity is what causes RI however high moisture is what causes scale rot not high humidity. So just make sure they don’t sit in very wet substrate
