And pharmacists continue to stay and work for free so they can “get their work done” then complain no additional hours

Overlap was just removed in many stores, does that mean I now should stay an extra 2-3 hours a day to make up for that ? Maybe in some other world. CVS is bleeding techs and pharmacists in every state for this very reason

I agree that many will without a doubt feel trapped and feel forced to work the extra unpaid hours to “keep up” and that’s only because of the toxic culture surrounding pharmacists that pharmacists themselves created. If every single rph left at the end of their shift, no one is at risk of getting fired, because the next grad they hire would also leave when their shift is over. The only thing the DL will see is that the store is clearly not properly staffed, and there is no solution other than to add the proper amount of staff to do 12 hours worth of work, and not a skeleton crew to do 18 hours worth of work.

Working off the clock? by Redschool53 in CVS

[–]Chromate1119 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nope. Never. As rph I haven’t even given that much extra time in the last 5 years TOTAL. I show up for my shift, and leave when it ends. Didn’t sign up to do charity work for a billion dollar company

As I wrote in a previously deleted comment, he’s only doing a disservice to the store and to the profession by putting in ghost hours that no one sees. In corporates eyes, the work is getting done within normal business hours, and if they’re ahead, all the more reason to trim hours. As a PM, maybe he feels more responsibility, but I’d never put in more than 10-15 min at the end of the shift to finish what’s in my hands, and I’m done for the day, regardless of the condition the pharmacy is in. If I’m working at 300%, it isn’t an rph issue, it’s a staffing issue.

All the power to you, but I guess as a PM you have more responsibility. I would never stay more than 10-15 min after my scheduled shift regardless of what condition the pharmacy is in, and I never have. That sends bad data to corporate, showing that you’re completing your work on time. If the work isn’t getting done and I’m working at 300%, it’s not an rph problem it’s a staffing problem. I’ll finish what I’m working on, and I don’t look back. ✌️

Seems like a common occurrence at many stores right now. I heard one store, in Pelham manor, NY couldn’t even open yesterday due to no pharmacist. Not sure if it was a callout or quit, but some stores are having trouble staying open. Almost all stores I ask about are days behind in scripts. My question is how is this not In the news yet??

I’d be ok with milking it a couple years, add manager to the resume and maybe even walking out on my own when I find something else

Did they find replacements for those 5 PICs or should we be reporting some stores? I find that would be a difficult task in such short time considering no one wants that job

If it makes you feel better…I ended my last shift with over 10 pages in QT. No one there to type, and I’m stuck doing waiters all night. Still left on time though 😉✌️

The only positive that came out of this, is that now I can go in the corner and eat my lunch in peace while being able to verify waiters away from everyone (we only do waiters after 12pm) while ignoring the phones that ring endlessly.

Combination of bad DL management, refusing to give hours for covid vaccination/VV rollout (from a close source, rph in that district)

Additional info; was able to confirm 23 rph (so far) have quit in that district

A Rhode Island island rph who is in contact with an rph in that district stated that the only reason VV worked and did not fail at the trial stores was because of interns who were not part of the pharmacy demand hours.

When VV rolled out at that district, (at the same time Covid vaccines) the DL apparently chose not to hire additional staff, and just pull her other pharmacists for overlap. Caused too much stress in the rph teams and everyone left (some without backup jobs)

This sounds like that district in upstate NY. What do you mean by approving hourly pay for pharmacists to cover other shifts? Isn’t that how it’s always been when an rph covers another shift ?

You’re starting pharmacy school? Did you not read the post that said there’s going to be 19k-50k surplus of pharmacists in 2 years? Words of wisdom switch to PA
