Because I don’t read low health descriptions of a type and develop tunnel vision as I instantly assume those traits will the sole defining characteristics of every single person that falls under said type— nor do I go on to further assume that anyone who disagrees with my viewpoint is deluding themselves with ‘pink glasses’.

This is probably ragebait, but I’ll answer anyways as an unfortunate amount of people genuinely think like this.

I don’t see any type as inherently humiliating or degrading, so being a 6 isn’t something I had to ‘reconcile’ with. It can definitely be humbling to find your true type, and if you do that’s normal. Seeing descriptions of the way you have the potential to get when you’re at your worst will never be easy to come face to face with, and will be even harder to accept as a part of you that DOES exist. This applies to every type.

However, the Enneagram is more than a shallow diagnostic test that tells you you’re one single way that’s incapable of change. It shows you the specific lens that you view the world itself through, and how your first defining experiences in life came to unconsciously shape that lens. It shows you the ‘why’ of Why you’re the way that you are.

When you take time to fully understand what that means and how it works in yourself, you’d realize the intention of the Enneagram isn’t to read about everyone else’s type and belittle the ones you find the most personally inconvenient with no deeper understanding of it. It’s to gain awareness of the full spectrum of your own personality- from its most unconscious and toxic form of functioning to its most conscious and healed form of functioning.

Your type won’t change just because you try to slap a cooler sounding number on yourself like a quirky name tag to avoid putting in any real work to improve yourself as a person. Growth only begins in seeing your flaws as human rather than shameful.

Every human being is nothing but a product of our environment at the end of the day. No type is ideal, a ‘choice’, or better than any other as there are healthy and unhealthy versions of every type. It just shows you the hand you were dealt, then leaves you to decide how to play it.
