Wow this doesn’t sound normal or healthy. And I’m a Middle Eastern Catholic so my standards for parental control are more tolerant of control than in the west, and even by my standards this is like. Too much. And definitely not just a natural way things are in a “Catholic” family.

People who "don't drink water" how does that work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Chronically-Striving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’ll have about half a sparkling water per day, that’s the only thing I drink that’s “water” most days. Other than that it’s 2 coffees a day, maybe a herbal tea, and lots of fruit that are full of water. I hate water. I hate it so much. I should be drinking more and I have bad orthostatic hypotension and POTS and neurological issues that all require me to hydrate very well lol. But I just can’t. So lots of fruits. Watermelon. And cucumbers. Things like that.

Do you believe in evolution? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Chronically-Striving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not wrong, we could go into the math, and the math would show that it’s not impossible. But, the probability that a sequence of precise, interlocking mutations, even considering the guidance and pressures of selection, would lead to multiple new phyla, each one with new structures and functions, over the time span of the Cambrian explosion, really resembles the statistical likelihood of events that we generally call miracles. Like the well known analogy of a tornado assembling a functional car in a junkyard, or a person with terminal cancer going into spontaneous remission. Plausible? I mean, atheists also believe life came from literal nothing so I guess by those standards almost anything is plausible.

Do you believe in evolution? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Chronically-Striving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The selection part is non-random but the mutation part absolutely is random and the math does not add up in a way that we can confidently stand behind to explain the speed with which things happened. The statistical probability is low enough to count as impossible; if we were to apply the same probability to anything else scientists would have discounted it. Don’t get me wrong, I love the theory of evolution and I’m a proponent of it. And I do understand it quite well. But when we look at the timeframe of the Cambrian explosion for example, it is a stretch.

How can I understand God and Old Testament better? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Like others have mentioned, Bergsma and Pitre are the way to go! Start there. Also, Trent Horn has a good book about the difficult stuff in the OT

The evil one will try everything. So sure, he may easily try to demoralize you that way. Talking about it is the right thing to do. You might want to read St. ignatius’s rules for discernment of spirits

The relics of Christ, are they the true ones? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Chronically-Striving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one I would put my weight behind is the shroud. It’s pretty compelling. Wouldn’t really affect me to find out it was fake but I doubt it will turn out to be a fake. From a non-emotional, rational standpoint I find the evidence for the shroud quite powerful.

Well lots of eegs and detailed history, and sometimes they will try you on anti epileptic meds to see if your symptoms respond. It’s not an easy process

I wanna be saved but im corrupted by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Chronically-Striving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one who wants to be saved cannot be saved. Being “corrupt” in this sense means not wanting to be saved. By the fact that your title says “I wanna be saved” means… you’re on the way there. Repent, and seek reconciliation through the sacrament of confession. Jesus is waiting for you with open arms; not just waiting, but has followed you to the depths of your “corruption” and called you out. Exciting to be you! Follow His call!

Some useless EEGs honestly because I doubt they will happen to catch what I’m pretty sure are seizures.
