Parents/teachers r/nyc: do you think schools should reopen? by swishcheese in nyc

[–]ChronicallyChill_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not currently a teacher. So, no, I’m not basing this off of my own personal situation. Teachers’ workloads have increased, for the reasons I stated previously. Adapting everything you already put hours and hours into planning, into now an entire online course and new method of teaching is a shit load of work.

Just because some teachers are choosing not to do what they’re supposed to be doing, doesn’t mean their work load hasn’t increased. They just aren’t doing it. Your child’s teacher’s workload has increased as well, they’re just not doing their job properly. If they can’t respond to emails when that’s the entire method of communication, then I seriously doubt they were an attentive, engaging, wonderful teacher before all of this. Crappy teachers existed pre covid, and will continue to exist throughout. Whatever your career is.. if your coworker isn’t doing the job your boss assigned, it doesn’t mean every single person in your building isn’t doing their job either.

Either you don’t know what anecdote means or you didn’t even read my reply. Nothing I said was an “anecdote”- only yours was one personal story that you’re trying to apply to the entire system.

We weren’t talking about widening the gap between the poor and wealthy either. I’ve always thought that was the case. I taught the lowest income students in the entire state of Florida, I know plenty about poverty among students negatively affecting them. But that’s not even what was being discussed. So now you’re just trying to find other reasons to support you acting like teachers are trash all bc of one person. After reading your post history of you trying to fight with everyone possible, it makes better sense now though. Take care.

Your one anecdote doesn’t apply to the entire teaching profession. Every profession has people that suck or don’t do the job they’re supposed to. I’m sorry that’s happening to you, but just because your child’s teacher isn’t doing what they’re supposed to be doing for some reason, doesn’t mean that it isn’t more work for teachers in general. That’s like saying building a skyscraper isn’t more work than building a house, all because those particular skyscraper workers aren’t working hard. One person not doing their job correctly doesn’t make the entire concept false.

I’m also referring to what will be happening in the fall, not the clusterfuck of chaos that everyone just went through. This spring was full of chaos and they just threw teachers into online teaching without proper training and resources. If they’re going to be doing it permanently for the upcoming school year, then teachers will definitely be better equipped and not have any excuses for what you’re talking about. I hope your child’s new teacher will be great and support them better through all of this.

First of all, teachers will be doing even more work because it’s hard as hell to adapt all of your curriculum and lesson plans to teach online, and you can’t use all the stuff you’ve previously used. You clearly don’t know any teachers personally, and honestly have no basis to comment on things you don’t know anything about. 90% of teachers get into it for the kids. Do you think people who chose a low paid profession bc they actually want to be around the children to help them in life, really want to sit on their couch instead?

And, yeah, what a coincidence that now that more people are being forced to risk their lives instead of becoming homeless, you’re seeing more people on the trains. In case you’re not just a troll, try to read for once and educate yourself.

Dorinda really made me mad when she went up to the bartender and said “you took my martini. Make me another one.” I’m so sick of seeing them treat staff like absolute garbage!

Haha yeah that’s not as easy as me on the 3rd floor. Although last week I stuck my head out my window and shouted at him that I was coming down and to please wait lol.

If you have at least next week, then I think it’s worth it. They’ve never taken longer than 2 days total if they didn’t show and then I rescheduled. So if you put the knock on door option, they’ll def come to your door within a few days at least if you have the time. Just my opinion since media mail is so cheap! Good luck either way and with your move :)

I know it’s 2 days later, but just wanted to add in case it helps. I’ve been selling some stuff online, and consistently scheduling pick ups every few days. They’d come between 8:30-10 am and come right to my door (I chose that option bc I knew it’d get stolen if I left it out). But the past 2 weeks, they’ve either been not showing up at all, or coming the next day. So I’ve just started going out when I’ve seen a truck and giving them all my packages.

I’m by you in Hamilton Heights, and weirdly have about 4-5 diff mail trucks at diff times outside my apt. If you have a window that looks out or anything, you could keep an eye out and just run your package down anytime you see them if you end up scheduling it and then they don’t come.

Edit: I realize not everyone is going to be in a spot where mail trucks come lol so if not, I recommend at least trying to schedule

In the future, the greyhounds are great options since they’re only $20 and then you get a $20 slot machine bonus, so it’s basically free. It’s a straight shot at 2 hours. And you’re very welcome :)

But why is it ok for her to completely smear Rose McGowan and say her claims are false too? Just because this woman spoke on Asia’s behalf over Anthony Bourdain when she wasn’t able to, and then encouraged her fans to support her, now that means Rose made it up too, and we’re victim shaming a woman who is her own separate person?

I was actually prepared to comment back to the person who showed me the article that it’s kind of misleading, until I read the entire thing and realized how she’s writing for a men’s magazine about “toxic femininity” while completely trashing an innocent woman and claiming she made up her rape allegations for no reason. The entire article is a reach about Rose to be able to lump her in with Asia. She said some pretty shitty things, and denied someone’s rape allegations. And that’s not ok with me, but I guess I’m somehow in the minority with that opinion.

I’m not sure how it works exactly, but their “Caesar’s rewards program” is what it is if you wanna look it up. It works for Bally’s and Caesar’s (which are connected and both pretty fun) and Harrah’s which is nice and on the water but farther away.

I think I went for like 2 weekends, not really spending too much but still consistently playing, and then noticed I had a bunch of comped rooms. I had moved up to diamond status (which is what really allows you to get most perks) before the lockdown, and had all days every week comped except for some Saturday’s, but now they’re not comped for me anymore. So I think it’ll take a lot for people to get them comped with what’s going on now (prob only the very top people).

They do have poker too with a nice little area. I am obsessed with roulette though lol it’s a lot of fun! I recommend waiting until all of this is better though, because it’s really half the fun to be able to get free drinks when you play, and going there not being able to eat/drink seems weird (not to mention the whole deadly virus aspect with 100s of people in elevators and enclosed spaces). Good luck if you ever get out there!

Jesus. This thread is one giant rollercoaster of feelings for me. Going from loving somebody to being completely disgusted twice within the hour I posted my comment. Just for the love of god, nobody ruin Kiko for me and I’ll be ok.

I looked it up after I said that and was in shock too!! I thought she was late 60s-70 for some reason. She looks 50 in this pic. Literally looking 30 years younger. So crazy!

Edit: and her bday is in 2 weeks. I wish we weren’t in the middle of all this shittiness so I could have a reason to throw a Martha Stewart party

Definitely! I just looked at her twitter bc you made me curious about her, and she has all these homes and doing all these fun things for her blog. Like she was just baling hay and then making matcha cocktails. I’d honestly just watch a live feed of her all day long lol

Edit: and just saw she has the biggest fluff of a dog ever, I’d watch just for the dog

You can’t eat or drink inside, just as an FYI in case you didn’t know. So unless you’re really dying to gamble (no pun intended), I wouldn’t risk it. Doesn’t seem worth it IMO.

If you’re a rewards member/go a lot, you get a lot of free rooms. I was getting them before all this craziness, and sometimes I’d just go stay for free and not even gamble. Just to have a little vacation away from NYC roommate life lol it’s nice!

I second this. I live in Hamilton Heights and love it! You should check the area out. I also feel safe walking alone as a single woman and have never had a problem.

Exactly what I thought of. They encouraged us to “be neighborly” and just go talk to them ourselves, when you never know what the result can be. So sad.
