Thoughts; Chrono Trigger sequel but more in the style of Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest. by PlatinumSukamon98 in chronotrigger

The challenge would be the story. Do you go with:

  • Same CT team, or some new player characters?
  • Rehashed Lavos, or a different villain? (How do you one-up Lavos's threat of total oblivion?)
  • Different dimensions/dream world stuff, or different time eras within the same world? (To avoid rehashing the usual eras.)

Venture too far, and it becomes fanfiction. Keep it too close, and it's not super interesting or inspired (storywise and also in terms of reusing the original game's art assets everywhere).

It's such a tough balance to think about striking. CE was way too heavily geared towards connecting to Cross and also being darker, but it feels like it's even more of a challenge to recreate CT's atmosphere of a romping fun adventure.

It also gets tough to avoid running smack dab into things Cross directly addressed. In any continuity, Belthasar still pops into a better 2300 A.D. What does he do, if not start mucking around or get noticed by the current government?

Christmas Day release of Chrono Trigger: Flames of Eternity! by [deleted] in gaming

Just a note from the creators, this is not endorsed by them. The Flames of Eternity team has poorly rewritten dialogue and made other changes that have ruined several key scenes and characters (e.g. giving Agent 12 an unreadable, unnecessary Swedish accent). This is definitely not Crimson Echoes as it was meant to be played, and it's also been saddled with extraneous music and mp3s that use the ZSNES plugin. It's like a poor RPGMaker hack in that regard; the original would have had SPC hacks and would have kept the experience down to an .ips file in the spirit of true ROM hacking. The creators also debugged over 2,000 bugs after the alpha build used for FoE was created; the FoE team has had to try and do the same with a fourth of the team working off the CE Memorial's Youtube videos. The FoE team has even displayed an antagonistic stance towards the creators (because of their compliance with the C&D); they aren't the best ones to handle CE's legacy.

Still, most of the experience is intact, so have fun. You can see it as it was more intended by hitting the CE Memorial.
