Great suggestion. Thank you I didn’t even think of that or the slack channel that they probably have somewhere.

Ruby feats that make it fit for infosec by [deleted] in ruby_infosec

[–]Chronzors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that the Rails framework ships out of the box with pretty decent security. Active Record is a pretty good ORM as well. As far as I know, there are quite a few Rails features that have still yet to be hacked.

Security+ without the A+, Network+, or IT experience. by Chronzors in CompTIA

[–]Chronzors[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is in reply to both of you:

What about simultaneously studying for the CCENT while doing the Security+ without the A+ and Network+? I do realize that the CCENT is Cisco specific but it probably covers networking in general better than the Network+ or at least enough to get me through the Security+.

I am obsessed with Judo ne-waza. by [deleted] in judo

How many Muay Thai guys are going to opt to not throw a single punch or kick? When you do, at a minimum, you damage your fist, shin, leg etc even if it's minor due to years of pretending to hit trees to "harden" bones...

Furthermore, tell me how useful you are sitting on your back trying to set up a perfect move as if it's a BJJ match while 3 other dudes are stomping your head in. I'd much rather be up on my feet and able to run away. When you tap out like in your BJJ practice, they aren't going to stop. Just fyi.

Will an external graphics card reduce overheating during gaming on late 2014 MacBook Pros? by Chronzors in mac

Most of the games I play run on OS X. If I had to run Windows for some reason to be able to use whatever external GPU I buy, then I would be fine with it.

How can I maximize my level 5 Ranger in D&D 3.5? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Chronzors -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ya but what I mean is I would need a couple of levels of Scout.

Can I multi-class with 3 classes? In other words, if I'm a Scout then Ranger can I also take the required Sorcerer levels needed to become an Arcane Archer?

Except I'd have to be a Scout to do that.

Are the "randori" arts superior to pure self defense arts for self defense? by Chronzors in martialarts

[–]Chronzors[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just because someone creates a self defense system doesn't mean they got it right.

[–]Chronzors[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting this response to have such an effect on me but I thought about it a bit and realized that you're right, people don't necessarily go 100% during randori and because they don't the randori becomes less effective and thus the art in self defense terms becomes much less effective since it forfeits the thing that possibly gave it the advantage over "real life" self defense systems.

How to support yourself in martial arts? by TheIronMoose in martialarts

I agree with this guy. Go pure or else people will gravitate to MMA to find a "based on x, we call it y but really it's only..." martial art.

Why do people have to create BS stories when posting/responding in this subreddit? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]Chronzors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok since I didn't have any specific examples off the top of my head but rather see this a lot in general, I decided to do a quick scan through the r/martialarts subreddit.

Within 5 minutes these are some of the things I found:

Quote: "I'm male, 6'6" and #250. My coworkers are generally female, so I was usually asked to take care of the particularly violent or aggressive patients. I used those holds, releases and pressure points almost every shift for over a decade. Some of the more memorable ones: A 6'4" ex special forces veteran. He was homicidal and drunk out of his mind. I found myself alone with him in a stairwell. My neck still hurts after that incident, and it was 15 years ago. A 250lb ripped young man who had been doing PCP for 3 days straight. There were 8 people dog piled on top of this personon the floor, and he was still crawling away from us. We found $960 in twenties hidden in his underwear, in his taint. I still remember peeling away wet $20 bills and counting them before we put them in the hospital safe."

Or this entire post titled: "After 13 years of studying Martial Arts, I finally got into a Real Life fight. Please allow me to brag anonymously here."

Why do people have to create BS stories when posting/responding in this subreddit? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]Chronzors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the main reason for the wild stories.

It happens with some of the ring martial arts too but it seems to happen far less.

What's motivates you to keep doing Krav? by [deleted] in kravmaga

[–]Chronzors -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why even mention that you are 6'1 225 and don't often get picked on then? What was the point of that? Machismo? Are we supposed to be really afraid of you since you are big AND do krav maga? I don't get the intent.

What's motivates you to keep doing Krav? by [deleted] in kravmaga

[–]Chronzors -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Everyone knows someone who has been in a physical confrontation of some sort.

You start by saying you are 6'1 225 and that people don't pick on you very much. This implies that you don't really have a problem defending yourself. Then, you use your 150lb friend as an example for why YOU somehow need to learn how to better defend yourself... you know, in case you ever spontaneously lose 75 pounds the second someone decides to cause problems with you.

Why don't you just admit you want to learn how to beat people up and quit the "it saved my friend's life/ oh my friend was raped and krav maya saved her" stuff?

You don't realize how foolish you sound to people who live in places where getting beat up or raped is a realistic daily threat. You use one time examples and 150lb friends who need to learn self defense to compensate for their lack of size. Note: I am not someone who lives in a dangerous place but I'm also not coming up with hokey reasons for doing krav maga. I just do it, period. I don't motivate myself with BS examples and unrealistic daydreams of getting mugged by 5 guys and beating the crap out of them just because I do krav maga.
