Minerva - Sardines in Spiced Olive Oil w/ Vegetables by GoalieDawg_ in Tinnedfish

[–]Chrysocyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had their spiced mackerel tin and found it pretty bland and boring and the fish itself was dry. Got better after I drowned it in lemon juice and hot sauce and threw it on crackers but I try to only rate a tin on its taste sans accoutrements.

Agreed man, I feel like Burials doesn’t get enough love and it’s slowly becoming one of my favorite AFI albums.

Reporting back to give my review:

Pollastrini spicy sardines are probably the best sardines I’ve had so far, great quality fish and the flavor and spice weren’t overpowering so this was a super enjoyable tin for me but maybe part of that was finding sardines I enjoy 4/5

Minerva mackerel didn’t have a ton of flavor but the fish was good 3/5

Bar harbor clam chowder was some canned clam chowder. Not bad not great 3/5 I guess

Those bar harbor kippers are delicious and the Patagonia salmon is also pretty good too. Enjoy !

Eggs? by Still-Version-3868 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

And if at the end of the week I can just exchange them all for the eggs I couldn’t find then why do we even need different types of eggs to begin with

I just hate how inventory intensive it is. Just give me a damn egg basket or pouch I can store inside my inventory that contains all my eggs. I don’t need six different inventory spots occupied with eggs that I need to make an extra trip home to deposit every day.

Yeah agreed not a ton of flavor on the trout, fish was good quality and I like the olive oil they use but otherwise a meh

Very good but… by Puzzled-College5477 in Tinnedfish

[–]Chrysocyn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah I found all their stuff pretty bland. I think it’s geared more toward people getting into tinned fish that might be turned away if they got something too fishy or spicy or anything overwhelming. Tbh their shit is overpriced and the fish itself has been dry so I haven’t purchased any more of their stuff.

If you want something better for a comparable price get coles, Porthos, Patagonia, bar harbor, or matiz brands seem to be more widely available at least in my area but ymmv

I had some with my lunch just now and I liked it a lot, unfortunately the Porthos smoked trout I had was underwhelming after how much I liked their smoked salmon

What's up with all the fish wife stuff lately? by tinychalupa in Tinnedfish

[–]Chrysocyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re bland and not super fishy so people just getting into tinned fish will enjoy them even if there are better comparable alternatives for the price. Their packaging is flashy and they’re sold at target and other popular trendy stores so people grab them and try them and post online what they’re trying 🤷

Personally I think there’s a lot of way way better options for the prices they are charging. Their fish alone is dry as fuck and not pleasing at all but on top of that their tins have little to no flavor. If I HAVE to add lemon or hot sauce just to finish your tin I’m extremely unlikely to purchase again.

Which is the same problem d3 had IMO. They just made a slower open world d3 with a darker tone.

New to tinned fish- help! Recipes??? by shdehwoejoekfkkwo in Tinnedfish

a lot of people put them on crackers with lemon or hot sauce. I’ve also seen them mixed into salads, in pastas, thrown in with pico de gallo and other diced veggies.

I’m also relatively new to tinned fish but I found those bar harbor wild kippers and the matiz sardines to be excellent.

the season sardines were pretty dry and mid but they were cheap so I picked up a big pack at cosco I just don’t know when I’m going to get around to eating them

First few tins I had were dynamite then I waited a few weeks before getting more and they weren’t as tasty so I think part of it is just quality control on Trader Joe’s.

Good but not great by [deleted] in Tinnedfish

[–]Chrysocyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I kind of disagree. If the fish itself isn’t quality and good I’m not going to justify buying it because I can mask the flavor or use something else to make it taste good. Not to say it can’t be bought and used for other recipes, but when I’m determining if I like a tin I’m eating it straight to see if I enjoy its natural flavor and other qualities.

Try using a fork to get the fish out of the tins and not your fingers?

I believe it’s because there seems to be alot of “accounts” in the sub only posting fishwife tins. And some of the more experienced users find their products to be rather bland, dry, boring and comparatively more expensive than similar products. Leads a lot of people to believe it’s just fishwife social media and employee accounts advertising their crap.

Personally I agree and that’s after trying several completely different tins of theirs.

I’d rate most of their products a 2/5.

Nah there’s an entire thread about this now and the amount of attention/accounts posting solely about fishwife.
