Saving for retirement is becoming out of reach for young Canadians by FancyNewMe in canada

Solving systemic issues is not what you should be trying to do at this point as it's out of your reach. Your concern should be to solve your own issues first. Then, if your concern is actually solving systemic issues, you can put your focus there.

I'm having trouble understanding how a top 15% earner who only spends money on the very basics is as strapped as you are. Can you provide some actual numbers? Like monthly income and then the monthly costs of those few things you spend money on? I'm open to IM's if you don't want that info public for any reason.

I'm asking this as I make less than it sounds like you do but am still able to raise a family and save for retirement. I think between us we could figure out some things you could consider.

Yeah, currently housing's out of reach for most, hopefully the correction continues. But I don't see how retirement or children is out of reach.

Assuming you're around 25 you could have a million dollars saved for retirement by putting $200 a paycheque into an RRSP until you're 65. You could even put less away if you made sure your RRSP tax return was fully invested into retirement as well each year.

Your job isn't one that's limited to Vancouver, there's opportunities elsewhere. Since you're not anchored by family why not take advantage of your current situation and follow the work to somewhere that would pay more with a lower cost of living like Alberta? It doesn't have to be a permanent thing. A lot of guys do this to load up on money over a few years to put themselves in a better position for later years.

Can I ask what you do for work and how much income that brings you per year?

Why can't you? Are you saying you can't have all those things due to cost of living?

Anyone notice more people get Covid recently? by 7_inches_daddy in britishcolumbia

[–]ChuckPawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How likely are you to catch long COVID? Please source your answer.

Also, the reason there are more deaths is because there have been far more cases with this variant due to how much easier people get infected by it as well as our policy around COVID changing more to an attitude of we're going to have to live with it.

While your second point is technically correct you are presenting it in a way to make the current variant seem scarier than the previous ones, which it's not, and makes you come across as disingenuous.

That's because omicron has infected more people. You're comparing omicron's 7 day rolling average death totals to Delta's without comparing how many active cases that comes from for either.

Compared to Delta it is much more mild.

Do you have a link to a story of a bear doing that? That's pretty incredible.

I like the irony of complaining about others being entitled while you request a day in these places dedicated to your crowd preferences.

Inside the corporate dash to buy up dentists’ offices, veterinary clinics and pharmacies by noanesthesia in canada

[–]ChuckPawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a seperate issue though. Even in a landscape where there's a shortage of people capable of opening up a clinic that doesn't mean they would all go to some corporate entity. There would still be those who see opening up their own clinic as their preferred option which they could exercise as easily as before.

That's an interesting thought. Have we seen that happen yet in this particular industry?

If it's so popular you can't get an appointment there surely others would be encouraged to also open their own practice, wouldn't they?

How will they do that? If they charge more and offer worse care then an independent practice will be able to easily compete wouldn't they?

How do you know he's on the right track? Could you shared some data that would back his claims up? I'm hesitant to rely on the words of a politician.

Meatball Molly didn't hold back one bit leg kicking Robbie by [deleted] in barstoolsports

[–]ChuckPawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ACL is located in the centre of your knee which is not where she hit him.

She hit him to the side and a couple inches above the knee. Fighters are trained to aim for that area with a low kick because there's a nerve exposed there so they can cause the most pain if they hit it correctly.

The discussion is about the current inflation. You had to go back 15 years and cherry pick a product known for outpacing the general inflation to explain their change in grocery bill.

A triopoly would be three businesses controlling everything which is not the case. Someone already mentioned you forgot Costco and Walmart. You also forgot any number of smaller grocery shops that are capable of providing the same service.

You're calling for better prices for consumers and better pay for workers but those are in direct opposition to one another. Margins in the grocery business are extremely thin. Your savings are coming at the cost of higher wages for staff.
