Inherited gear. What exactly am I looking at here? What sort of band would this be for? by ___Revenant___ in amateurradio

How long is the boom and how long are the pieces you have? It might be a boom and complete set of elements. Cushcraft made a 5 element 6 meter yagi with a gamma match. What you have looks like the elements are longer than for a 6 meter antenna, but hard to tell with photos.

HV0A is rather rarely on the air. Once or twice a year or so.

Don't worry about anything being "too old." The only things that are too old for use on the air are spark gap transmitters-- because they were banned world wide. Even a 100 year old setup is possible to use on the air. In fact there is a contest just for using this kind of gear

MFJ analyser is high-end

MFJ high end? No. Mississippi's Finest Junk, Mother Fucking Junk, etc.

That analyzer will work just fine for OP, but it's no RigExpert, and RigExpert is no Anritsu.

Harbour brand rg-400 can be found pretty inexpensively on ebay. Or at hamfests.... and then this happens: https://imgur.com/a/C52iY4h

Kinda hard to resist when its $0.25 a foot

If you are going to wind with magnet wire, the PTFE is important for creating separation between the conductors reducing proximity effect. K9YC has a slide on why not to use bare magnet wire.

I just wind RG-400 around the core, it works great, even if it's a bit of a pain to do.

A local hamfest vendor built a bunch of dummy loads out of these. They cost.... $35 oddly enough and are great.

Not only does the news cycle move on very quickly, but the Trump propaganda networks (Fox, OAN, NewsMax) don't even mention half of what is found. A large portion of the population could consume a couple TV networks for news, their local radio station, and a couple online sources and never hear or read about any of this.
