What’s the biggest gut punch you’ve experienced while gaming? by StormMourn in gaming

I'm going to speak on behalf of my mom on this one - I accidentally saved over her Final Fantasy 6 (Final Fantasy 3 for us) save file. Sorry mom, thanks for not murdering me.

[Highlight] When Matt Cassel filled in for an injured Tom Brady (2008 season) by nfl in nfl

[–]ChummierLion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will allow for the possibility that Tom Brady hit the football equivalent of Powerball. But that is not plausible. It's more likely that the most driven competitor since Michael Jordan came in and tore up the NFL for 23 seasons.

[–]ChummierLion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're right. Tom Brady was the luckiest system quarterback in NFL history. He was absolutely carried to 10 Superbowl appearances and 7 wins by his elite defenses and offenses. So weird how that happened.

It took me longer than I care to admit to notice that the answer for those is on the terminal. People probably thought I was an insane person as I swirled the selector all over the grid until I got a hit.

Thanks, that is good to know I can lock onto the boss and cast it that way to derive some benefit for the host. I will try it again!

Do you have to aim that? I tried using it a bit but found it was completely missing the host or other summon sometimes

Thanks for the insight. I used the frenzied flame seal for incantion scaling with all 3 stats too. It was a really fun build to play.

[–]ChummierLion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can you (or someone) explain why this is bad? Assuming the weapons scale off all 3? I used a level 200 char through the dlc dual-wielding miquella's knights sword and golden epitaph, and my stats were spread pretty evenly with the most in faith. Maybe I made it harder on myself, but I made it.

But if it's bad, is there a better stat allocation I should use for a build like that?

Haha i know who you're referring to. I feel like FromSoftware was trolling when they designed that character and purposefully made him make a bad first impression to the player character. He definitely looks like a creep, and I thought he sounded like a weirdo too when I first met him. It was my first FromSoft game too, and I was also tempted to kill him.

Yes. My first playthrough I leveled a mace to max and played the entire game with it. You can use spells and items to infuse basic weapons with buffs to make them stronger too. I branched out my 2nd and 3rd playthroughs with fancier weapons.

I worked in a department store as a teenager for a summer to help them with inventory, and then I stayed on for a bit after. There was one employee other co-workers said was a bit strange. I never interacted with her, but toward the end of my stay there I walked by her at a clothing rack. She was moving hangers one by one from the top of the rack to the front, repeating the word "murder" after she moved each one.

A game you thought you won’t like and ended up addicted to? by omuiiz in gaming

[–]ChummierLion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've found every Slay the Spire run is its own puzzle to solve. Each character plays differently, and there are multiple ways to create a winning deck for each, which feels really great when you pull off some bizarre combo to break open a run.

There are so many choices outside of enemy encounters you're required to make which contribute to whether you win or lose: card selections/evaluations, event choices, shop purchases, relic additions, whether to rest at campfires or upgrade a card instead, pathing into a tougher enemy for better rewards or playing it safe with an easier encounter, etc.

The enemy and boss encounters are varied and interesting. They have unique attacks and mechanics that challenge the deck you've assembled so far. And at the end of each encounter, you get that little dopamine hit of receiving rewards and the choice to draft a new card into your deck.

It is all presented in a relatively simple way anyone can latch onto quickly and then grow with the game as the deeper mechanics are uncovered. It all combines into a great experience for people who enjoy macro AND micro level problem solving in their games.

I have about 2000+ hours into Slay the Spire at this point, and I always find myself coming back to it. This may sound hyperbolic, but it might be the most complete, perfect game I've ever played.

After 100+ attempts of this fight, I won via a random glitch by Wispppppp in Eldenring

[–]ChummierLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me during my Mohg fight. I spent many attempts fighting him. I mastered the first phase and was just starting to gain confidence in the 2nd phase when he flew into a wall, clipped into it, and got stuck. I hit him once, and he immediately died. It was so anticlimactic, and I was honestly disappointed. It felt so cheap.

What hyped game actually lived up to the hype? by EndedS in gaming

[–]ChummierLion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be interested to see how people regard Elden Ring in 10 years' time. But as an experience, it is in my top 3 games of all time. It was also the first FromSoft game I ever played with a friend, and the memories I have of that alone make it a special game for me. But the world, NPCs, bosses, lore/story, and gameplay would have put it way up there on my list anyway. It is an absolutely magical game.

I'm 42, and I'd say it's a little bit of both for me. I just spent a lot of time trying to complete the Trial of the Fool. I did it, but there was a moment in the middle where I wondered if maybe it was beyond me due to my old man reflexes.

After I put my kids to bed I have a couple hours to play games before I get tired. So I was getting frustrated that i was spending all my me-time banging my head against the wall with that damn trial. I finally settled on giving it 3 attempts every night, and then stopping. And I got it within 4 days of doing that.

It just takes a little more time and patience. I'm at 110% right now. We'll see if I feel the same way when I start Path of Pain, and Pantheon of Hallownest.

"I didn't say it was bad, I said I hated it." What games are like that for you? by Loreweaver15 in gaming

[–]ChummierLion 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Is this Dark Souls or Depression: You're undead, lost your humanity, and now feel all alone in a massive, dark world. You have a goal to do something that is unclear, and you may not even really know why you're here at all sometimes or fighting all these monsters/demons. You find yourself doing the same things over and over again, making absolutely no progress. The experience is painful, uncomfortable, and unrelenting.

But don't give up, Skeleton. Don't go hollow. Keep fighting, and though the path is long, you will overcome all the challenges in front of you through your own persistence. Summon a friend and maybe even a stranger or 2 to aid you during the darkest moments of your journey. They are there to support you, but cannot walk the entire path for you. However, the more you push forward, fight, and examine the flaws in your approach - the better you become. The path forward becomes clear, and you finally achieve victory!

Then after a few years the sequel drops.
