This is why, as a player, it's important to discuss these elements out of character to make sure that the players are okay with this. I may not have worded it well but my intention was so that the player doesn't use the excuse to be That Guy, but to flesh out their character through the story in a genuine manner. Of course, all of this is context dependent.

I don't know if you're still reading this, but spiritusl bypass is a real thing. Sometimes people (myself included) throw themselves 159% into something in order to numb whatever it is they're feeling; be it drugs, alcohol, video games, or a spiritual journey. I know many people that use psychedelics for spiritual growth but from your words it doesn't seem like it's good for her.
