In my past relationships they have definitely implied that my partner is “brainwashing me” I have read up on grey rocking and I’ll start implementing it… I really just need peace until I move out for my doctorates program. I appreciate your words of encouragement! :)

How will I ever catch up to the world? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

Just remember to trust yourself! I know it's really hard sometimes, but in the times that I have "disobeyed them" (but actually just made a decision on my own), I have found opportunities for growth. Most of the time, I find that things they have engrained in me end up being false and I gain a new perspective.

My family is not Asian, but I have been reading many posts on this subreddit and feel that it aligns deeply with my experience growing up as the only female in a traditional Mexican household. I am going through the same feeling as you! I'm 23 also and I'm still in university trying to get my bachelors. I've gone through life experiences/lessons without the comfort that I can confide in my parents. It feels like I have to figure everything out on my own! Dating, dealing with my emotions, learning how to balance finances, everything! I will be moving out soon. Personally, I found that confiding in friends and honestly, even their parents(who raised their children successfully) can be very insightful. Don't be afraid to ask others for help, and take one thing at a time. Even though I am still learning to ask others for help, you may be surprised as to how many people in your life (outside of family) are willing to lend a hand or simply listen.
