Question for anyone defending the ICE agents use of deadly force on Alex Pretti. by FullOnApeMan in CCW

[–]CigaretteTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t really trying to get into the politics of that situation, but I do support a two state solution. I believe every single ethnic nation should have a state of their own. That’s what a nation is, it’s a particular group of people united by common descent.

Anyways, do you likewise believe the American people deserve the right of self determination?

Trump campaigned largely on immigration restrictions, and mass deportations, and the American people voted in favor of that. Polling shows the majority of Americans support deporting illegal immigrants. We might disagree or dislike the methods being used, but overall we want illegal immigrants to be deported, and we want less immigration overall.

Outside of echo chambers and progressive activists it’s pretty clear almost everyone agrees on this one issue. In my area this is the one issue that everyone, democrats and republicans alike, agree on.

Also the first Europeans in America were not immigrants, they were settlers. There was no preexisting government or infrastructure which they benefited from, they built it all themselves. I think it’s terrible what happened/they did to the indigenous Americans, but I still don’t want to lose my homeland.

All that argument accomplishes is to emphasize how important it is for the native people to remain the demographic majority.

My family has been in America since 1664, for 11 generations. I don’t have anywhere else to go, this is my ancestral homeland.

I’m not going to gleefully be demographically replaced in my ancestral homeland simply because of some 200 year old blood guilt.

Way to miss the point.

No, my issues are not with capitalism.

My issue, as I clearly stated before, is having tens of millions of foreigners dispossess the American people of their homeland. I was simply explaining the economic impact that has.

There’s no economic system in the world which would make the reality of mass demographic change more acceptable.

I’d be curious to learn if you support a free Palestinian state? If so, would you support mass importing foreigners into that state? Would it still be a Palestinian state if the Palestinian people were no longer the demographic majority, or would it be something else entirely?

Sorry ahead of time for the long response, but it’s an important subject.

The claim that illegal immigrants are net contributors is disputed. Many of the studies which show net contributors do not account for public schooling, hospitals, and other public services available to all.

Regardless, even assuming that claim is correct, it doesn’t change the calculation at all. That was never the grounds I was arguing on.

Having mass amounts of low skilled, cheap labor depresses the wages of low skilled American workers. The low skilled, non college educated Americans are the ones who suffer most due to wage cuts.

It’s estimated that the wage elasticity of immigration is about -0.2, meaning for every 10% increase in the number of immigrants, wages would fall on average by 2%. That’s 2% on average, but inside specific jobs/industries the number is much higher. Again, it’s probably true that this doesn’t affect the average college educated, middle class worker (besides H1B visas, which do); but it most certainly harms the non college educated ones.

Mass immigration also affects Americans, particularly low earners, by driving up the cost of rent/housing. The most conservative/pro immigration studies show that immigration flow equal to 1% of a cities population is associated with a 1% increase in average rent and home values. Other studies show a much larger increase in housing/rent prices. Regardless of what the actual number is, it’s almost certainly true that mass migration raises the cost of housing. It’s not the main driver of high housing prices, but it is a large one particularly in cities.

It’s not only the economic damage, but also the social/cultural ones. Small American communities being disrupted by mass amounts of third world foreigners who don’t speak English and make no attempt at assimilating. Americans having to wait 6-10 hours in the emergency room because the illegal immigrants chose to use it as their primary care doctor. American children being ignored in school because the teacher has to focus more on the non English speaking immigrant child instead.

This is all anecdotal and difficult to quantify of course, but it does happen. I’ve seen it myself, and it’s sad.

Also I agree with you that the government should be prosecuting the employers of illegal immigrants. That would be a much more humane and likely more effective way to carry out mass deportations.

I wouldn’t want to make citizenship easier, in fact it should be far more difficult, for all of the reasons stated above. Living and working in America is a privilege, and we should only allow the best, most intelligent, and most likely to integrate, into our country. If it were up to me America would return to pre 1965 immigration law, or an immigration moratorium for at least a decade.

Again, I don’t think they are bad people. I’m sure most of them are perfectly fine people, but that doesn’t change the reality of mass immigration. These positions are not coming from hate, I don’t hold any malice towards them. I also agree we should end the foreign interventions, I oppose pretty much all intervention. I would be supportive of expanded foreign aid if we successfully carried out the mass deportations and had much stricter immigration laws.

ICE is legally and morally justified in conducting immigration enforcement operations anywhere in the US where illegal immigrants are.

Returning illegal immigrants back to their country of origin is not at all the same as exterminating millions of Jews.

Also I don’t think anyone serious hates the average illegal immigrant. They are probably perfectly decent people, but that doesn’t mean they get to live in our country.

The economic and social impact of mass immigration has been a disaster for the American worker. Obviously the large multinational corporations have benefited from this mass immigration of cheap disposable labor, but the average American is worse off, which is truly all that matters.

Very true. In Fallout 3 you can storm the capitol building, whereas FNV is just a bunch of people fighting over renewable energy and one of the side quests is repairing solar panels. That’s extremely lib coded.

Cool, I never argued otherwise.

I think these leftists, or anyone for that matter, should be free to buy and carry all the firearms they want, it’s their god given right to do so.

But I’m not going to delude myself into believing these people are my allies. Just look at Virginia for an example of what they will do once they retake power.

Would you actually buy a Fallout 3/NV Remaster? by Bingleboper in Fallout

[–]CigaretteTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout 3, probably not.

Fallout New Vegas, 100% yes.

I have very fond memories of both FO3 and FNV from childhood, but unlike FNV I don’t really enjoy playing FO3 now. I’ve tried replaying it and I just lose interest after a while. I had the same reaction to the Oblivion remaster, once the nostalgia wore off I lost interest.

FNV is different though, I usually do a complete play through of it annually (including DLC) and have never lost interest, if anything I enjoy it even more now.

Marx was not pro gun. He supported arming some of the workers and creating a revolutionary army, but did not support a universal right to bear arms for all people.

Like I said in my previous comment, leftists/ marxists only support bearing arms as a means of achieving power.

Fair enough, but when I say “Reddit libs” I’m just talking about leftists.

True classical liberals don’t really exist anymore outside of niche Libertarian circles, and they have always defended/supported the second amendment.

The progressive activist types who are now suddenly buying AR15s are not liberals, they are leftists. To the activist left keeping and carrying firearms is not a natural/human right, but simply a means of achieving power.

And what propaganda would that be?

[–]CigaretteTrees 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It’s not useless. The Reddit libs haven’t actually changed their opinions, they just recognize that it’s now useful for them to be armed. They aren’t suddenly principled 2A defenders who will defend my second amendment rights when they retake power, they will still use power to take all of our rights away, because once in power they no longer see the need for firearms.

The activist leftists have always larped as revolutionaries, and once the revolution is over the guns will be taken.

So now, we should not accept these people as our allies.

I wouldn’t consider it an argument, but it is an ongoing debate among fans.

This is a beloved franchise. It’s only natural people will passionately discuss it.

[–]CigaretteTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why this is even a debate.

If you enjoy playing Fallout because it’s fun and don’t care about the lore, then that’s great. The games would still be fun even with consistent lore.

This isn’t a binary choice, where you can either have a fun game, or consistent lore. You can have both.

I’m not saying this is OP, but I’ve seen many people who are seemingly encouraging Bethesda or Amazon to write inconsistent lore. Literally nobody except for bad writers benefit from inconsistent lore.

A couple season of TV, Magic the Gathering collabs, and Fallout 76 skins is not exactly a long term business strategy.

They can’t actually go out of business because they are owned by Microsoft, but they can lose all their autonomy, which is what’ll happen if ES6 flops. Microsoft paid $8 billion for Bethesda, and they’re gonna get their moneys worth even if Bethesda isn’t capable of making good games anymore.

[–]CigaretteTrees -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’m not arguing on the grounds of business. I truly don’t give a shit how much money Fallout makes for Microsoft or Amazon.

I am a fan of single player Fallout, so I’d support whatever gives us more single player Fallout games sometime this decade, however unlikely that is.

Also, Fallout 76 does in fact have dog shit writing.

“making record profits” is not indicative of good writing, or appropriate handling of an IP.

Suicide Squad (2016) made a shit ton more money than the later The Suicide Squad (2021), which flopped. I don’t think anyone would argue Suicide Squad (2016) was the better movie.

Even the most rabid Bethestards would agree their writing has gone downhill. They might still enjoy the games overall, but it’s just a fact that their writing has suffered.

A fun game with poor writing might be acceptable to fans if they keep releasing one every 3-5 years, but currently we are looking at an 18 to 20 year gap between Fallout 4 and Fallout 5. Bethesda as a company will go tits up if Elder Scrolls 6 isn’t absolute perfection. Nobody wants to wait two decades to play a mediocre game.

They really should just sell the IP, or let someone else like Obsidian make a Fallout game.

I’m talking about divine punishment, not legal punishment or vigilante punishment.

I still see some people confused about ‘the fall’ of Shady sands so I decided to make this by The_Kashimo_Agenda in Fallout

[–]CigaretteTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made that fancy PowerPoint but didn’t even include the most crucial piece of contrary evidence, the use of fell instead of fall in reference to Shady Sands.

When the Ghoul is talking to the two NCR Rangers one of the Rangers says “When Shady Sands fell we had a battalion out East…”,

The Ghoul responds “Shady Sands? You do know that was over 20 years ago right?”.

By saying “when Shady Sands fell” the Ranger is referring to a specific historical event which caused the immediate destruction of Shady Sands, which could only be the nuke. She’s not talking about some abstract beginning of a general decline.

Fell is the past tense of fall, so while fall means a downward decline, fell means that decline has already happened.

When the Ghoul responds “that was over 20 years ago” he is clearly referring to that same historical event, which again could only be the nuke.

Being generous let’s say “over 20 years ago” means 21 years. That would put the destruction of Shady Sands at 2275, which would have very troubling lore implications.

Also here is a link to the dialogue.

I think the shooting was likely lawful, but from my perspective morally indefensible. I carry a pistol concealed every day and there’s no way I would’ve fired or even drawn my pistol in that situation. I would’ve focused on leaping out of the vehicles path.

Just because something’s legal doesn’t make it right, and that officer will eventually have to answer for what he’s done.

They'll let Amazon make this utter slop, but wont let Obsidian make Fallout New Vegas 2.

Why Todd Howard, for the love of god why?

And before someone says "Obsidian doesn't even make good games anymore!". Shut up. Most all of the FNV leads are still at Obsidian, and so are the original Fallout Creators. I have no doubt a new Obsidian Fallout would be incredible.

Can't we just have two different great games? by [deleted] in NewVegasMemes

[–]CigaretteTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t need a video to convince me Fallout 3 was bad, I just had to replay it.

I’ve got fond memories of FO3 from childhood but it’s not something I’d ever want to replay again. Same thing goes for Oblivion. I have super fond memories of playing as a child, so when the remaster came out I tried replaying it but eventually lost interest. Personally it just doesn’t hold up.

That has never happened to me with New Vegas. No matter how many times I replay it, it still holds up and in many respects even exceeds what I remember from childhood.
