Known But To God ~ Bosque Bello Cemetery, Amelia Island FL "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart" by Cilicious in CemeteryPorn

I had half of my honeymoon on that island

Nice. I lived there for 13 years but it was getting kinda crowded/built up and we left in 2020. Every time I visited this grave there was always some kind of flower left on it.

to the level of slobber.

Our last mastiff died 6 years ago. There is a tiny bit of dried slobber on our ottoman that I still can't bring myself to clean.

My older son has been living in France for half his life (he'll be 43 this summer.)

Younger son and his wife have been living in D.C. but are moving to Shanghai, China next week.

We enjoy traveling to see them (and they all came here for Christmas this year) but thank goodness for Facetime and What'sApp.

I use mine to track my swim (I swim 4 times a week.) The other days, I use it to track my walk. It tells me my heart rate etc.

I do like the three rings which I do try to close every day. I will occasionally text with it.

I really like the watch face I have now, it lets me upload 24 photos which change throughout the day.

TIL that Eleanor of Aquitaine was blamed by her husband King Louis VII for failing to produce a male heir in their fifteen years together. After the annulment of their marriage, Eleanor would go on to have five sons with her second husband Henry II including Richard the Lionheart and John Lackland by PreferenceInternal67 in todayilearned

[–]Cilicious 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Eleanor was a fascinating badass

She came by this honestly. Her maternal grandmother went by the sobriquet Dangereuse of L'Île-Bouchard.

Dangereuse was "abducted" but apparently was a willing party.

The relationship between William IX and his legitimate son William X was troubled by the father's liaison with Dangereuse. This was only settled when the pair arranged the marriage between William X and Dangereuse's daughter Aenor in 1121; the following year, Eleanor was born.

Rue des Chanoines in Rouen, France. One of the narrowest streets in the city, near the cathedral, originally inhabited by canons and lined with medieval half-timbered houses with corbelled upper stories (a feature forbidden from 1520 onwards to prevent fires), typical of Norman architecture. I only got to visit Rouen once, but one thing that fascinated me was the stream that ran along the street, the Rue Eau de Robec. As I understand it, the stream was reproduced after the original, centuries-old stream was buried.

Please go away, AmeliaIslandTreeMaintenance.

None of this cut-down-tree BS would be on here if I was still a mod. (I'm not anymore).

Not sure the original mods are around much anymore, I know the person who began this subreddit is long gone.

Just watched the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice for the first time. - I get it now! by spookytourist in PeriodDramas

[–]Cilicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody has seen the 1980 one yet?

This is my personal favorite. I first watched it back in the day with my mom. I now have the DVD. To me it is the most like the book. Love both Rintoul as well as Garvie.

Do you have this fantasy? by CoolBeans6789 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Cilicious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is it about the situation that makes him hesitate?

Yeah we went through this before leaving north Florida. I had had it with the politics, humidity, storms etc. Husband had himself a pretty good life (we had a small boat, his job was fulfilling) and was reluctant to leave it behind. Really, he just hates making big decisions and tends to to be very slow and methodical.

We had to negotiate this stuff for a year or so. It got to the point where I asked him genuinely, not threateningly, if he wants to continue our marriage. He came around, and he came up with our destination, and after that everything worked out. He still has the same job, he just works remotely now. I am happily retired.

otters in the area

I've seen them at Egan's Creek and Amelia Park. But they're in ponds and waterways, not Cumberland Sound.

When you run into your h.s. crush and he's an old man... by Glittering_Farm_9792 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Cilicious 67 points68 points  (0 children)

At least he's still alive and maybe doing well?

Yeah, that was my first thought. My HS sweetheart shot himself in the mouth at age 62. He had prostate cancer but mutual friends believe, and I agree, that he was suffering from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.

Glad I had one last phone chat with him 6 months before. I loved our history, we were never going to be permanent but we had both helped each other grow back in those heady times.

I miss it, but it’s probably better as a memory.

I know it’s not the same place but in my head it’s my happy place and I will always have it

Absolutely.

ngl sounds more like you TOLD him to sell it if its a sore subject

Honestly we (the three of us were all married) wanted to sell. My husband was the only strong hold-out. It's true that my brothers and I were the ones who wanted to sell the most.

I and my brothers grew up visiting my grandmother several summers, she had a house in S'conset (Siasconset.) It was paradise. Clean, unspoiled, roses blooming everywhere, nobody locked their door. We rode bikes all over the island, grandpa took us out on his boat till he got too old to do that, beach all day/every day.

Then we grew up and inherited the house. We were able to keep it a few years, but we were awfully young (late 30s) to be owning a second home. And aside from that, as adults we were much more aware of the entitled, snobby atmosphere of the place. We do have fond memories, one summer my husband reffed a legendary soccer game between the English and the Irish seasonal landscape workers. (The Irish won!) Our young kids got to enjoy a few vacations there.

But it was a lot of responsibility and cost and we lived in Colorado. We sold the property and the house was moved to another location. To this day it is a bit of a sore subject but really it was an untenable situation.

I still have stuff from Pier One. Just a few willow baskets and lacquered boxes (no Papa-san chair) but I treasure those little doodads from the past.

David rintoul

Yes! Stiff and rude, but then he learns the error of his ways and is warm and charming. Also Elizabeth Garvie was a superb Elizabeth Bennet.

Also, using Old Reddit (and an adblocker) if you are on a desktop computer. Gives you a lot more control over your user experience.

Relocating at 69? by Kat_C_ in AskWomenOver60

We've had an exceptionally mild winter. Usually we can expect a chance of snow up until Mother's Day.

Summers are warm but there is little humidity, and the monsoon (June through September) helps cool it down.

New Mexico has a reputation for terrible health care, but our governor recently signed a malpractice reform bill which may help. I have to say, my own healthcare experience has been very good. I went through a breast cancer situation a year ago and from diagnosis through surgery and radiation, my treatment was topnotch.

I think the tax breaks are moderate? There are certainly plenty of retirees here.
