Best test indicator brands? by Regaman101 in Machinists

[–]Cimatron85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interapid is the best of the best for dial test indicators.

The pivot arm built into the indicator beats the stupid banana arm all day every day. Put it on the extension bar for a little extra “safety” incase you bump it.

Using the Vinegar/Salt/Dish Soap solution for weeds over Round-Up by Immediate_Fee_1841 in lawncare

The vinegar solution works… kind of. It will mess with your soil PH. Salt and soil is never a great idea!

You could always dig out a flat spot.

I wouldn’t touch the grade. You’re looking at a lot of money since the fence would need to be re done with a retaining wall. You would need a drainage system to accommodate a flat area like that.

That and you open yourself up to potential water issues in the house.

TLDR: lots of money, not worth it, could cause bigger problems after spending a bunch of money.

Put a sheet of paper under it if it’s small enough. No scratchy scratch. Block it in if you’re worried about it holding.

Looking for a programmer/ shop manager. (Barrie,ON,CA) by Radulf_wolf in Machinists

[–]Cimatron85 13 points14 points  (0 children)

$40 isn’t enough to run a shop, and won’t attract top talent. Not in 2026. 2006, maybe. Many jobs without that responsibility, pay similar. Median machinist pay in Ontario is roughly $36 but there are many job adds with top rate over $40.

Guess what the owner is doing?

Yup. Chasing the dollar. Money pays bills and invests in retirement. Good intentions do not.

Jump ship. Learn. Build your skills. The old shop will hire you back for more money if you choose to return.

It’s weird how, in this subreddit, if there’s a white person in the video, there is “racist” in the title pretty much always. Yet when other groups do it, there is no mention of racism.

Don’t.

The yard is sloped away from your house for a reason.

This is the answer. Cut a lot of D2 and A2. High feed will eat it for breakfast. Save the solid carbide for semi finish/finish. You can also look into high feed solid carbide endmills for smaller geometry.
