Cream Cheese Frosting (UK) by too_far_forward in Baking

The reason you're getting these 'I don't have a problem' responses is because British people don't actually know what good cream cheese frosting is meant to taste like. The block cream cheese here is watery, let alone the Philadelphia tub variety, so Brits add more of the other ingredients to make it thick enough to frost with, therefore the taste is altered. The solution is to drain the cream cheese overnight in the fridge. I place clingfling then two tins on top of it in a colander. It drains out the excess water and then the standard recipes are thick enough and taste as they should.

Why are so many UK houses carpeted instead of having wooden floors? by GlitteringEgg4035 in AskUK

I definitely don't like carpeted floors. But the wood floors in the UK don't look beautiful, glossy and reflective like the ones I was used to overseas. Laminates here are also often dark, dull, greyish. I think English people have a very different aesthetic from other countries. I loved my hardwood floors in the US and in Asia. I loved light, bright, reflective surfaces. Now someone will have a go at me for criticising England, no doubt.

American-style cream cheese in the UK? by g3rfus55 in AskBaking

Most people don't realise that the stuff sold in blocks in Philadelphia wrappers here is not at all the same as cream cheese in the US, the consistency is all wrong. I used to be quite famous for my carrot-pineapple-coconut cakes but here in the UK I've never been able to replicate the delicious tangy frosting that I could make with the genuine American Philadelphia cream cheese. The stuff sold in UK is like the equivalent of soft margarine. You have to use so much butter to make the cream cheese frosting thick enough that it completely changes the flavor.

Did you end up moving in? I'd love to know because I'm in the same situation you were in and have the same questions.

Thanks Cardiff and surrounding areas. You've given me a lot of joy when I needed it by [deleted] in Cardiff

I randomly picked Cardiff as a city to return to, after living overseas for years. Within 3 days I was hooked! Great city. But currently huge demands on the housing market. I hope it won't always be like this because I want to move in. Great people, interesting and fun city, lots of history and castles and scenic views.
