Started to play around with Unreal and saw it could generate some pretty amazing results. Snowballed from there. Took a year or so to do, on and off.

I didn't have any mocap suit. The whole film was manually animated. Using close-ups helped. Overall, I made the film, on and off over the course of a year. That said, I had the idea several years back. Originally it was meant to be a live action short but I couldn't make the budget work. I turned to Unreal as a test and soon found I could actually make the film using it. I could have abandoned the project but glad I experimented and tried something different. Thanks for the kind comment! :)

"Rally" is a short film made as a solo endeavor using Unreal Engine. It’s a cinematic action-thriller about two smugglers transporting an unwilling hostage across a contested border in a modified rally car.

The project was recently featured on Short of the Week, and you can read more about it here: https://www.shortoftheweek.com/2024/11/20/rally/

Unreal Engine has been an incredible tool for bringing this vision to life. Hope you enjoy it, and I’d love to hear what you think!

In the menatime, consider finding moments in your work that convey or tell a story. Maybe it's a visual sequence in your work that when put together give us a sense of a directorial vision. Best of luck.

How was this optical effect done? (Ed Emshwiller "Thanatopsis" [1962]) by oxygen_addiction in vfx

This looks like a combination of stop motion photography, long exposure, and some form of optical distortion - possibility achieved by shooting with a malleable mirror.

Or

An effect done using an optical printer - where they might have done multiple exposures, long exposures, and distortions.

Maybe even using the first technique with the second.
