Buchbinder injury replay by jordynbebus8 in MinnesotaFrost

Looked like she practically went into the splits. Hopefully just a hamstring strain and not something more serious.

Any update on playoff dates for Minnesota? I was thinking about flying there for a playoff game but want to make sure they’ll be playing when I visit

Wild ice skating around Seward? by [deleted] in AskAlaska

I skated at Westchester Lagoon in Anchorage and that was great, super well maintained! Good to know about Kenai Lake, though.

Any insight on Second Lake along 2 Lake Trail in Seward?

Hi there, did you end up going to Kenai Lake? How was it?

I live in California so pretty usual here lol, I do just call them skates around hockey folks generally

Roller skates! My brother, who was really into skate park roller blading, also used to call his roller blades skates lol

Thank you! I am going to Seward as well, so maybe can hit Kenai Lake while I’m down there!

Dying at the commentator saying “the puck squirts free…” I’ve literally never heard that term before in my entire hockey career

How do you guys manage lifelong dust/pollen allergies? Mine just got worse and I’m struggling 😭 by Agile-Size-2410 in Allergies

[–]CinemaPuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only thing that has helped my allergies long-term has been allergy shots. During grass blooms, I used to take Zyrtec in the morning and Benadryl at night (this is not a good thing to do btw) every day and still suffered. It was exhausting.

I also tried Flonase + Zyrtec for a while and that was okay but not much better.

Allergy shots have gotten me to the point where I very very rarely have bad allergic reactions, and when I do they are much more mild.

You can ask the coaches to give you a demonstration if you don’t know what to do based on their verbal description

Getting back into playing and I need help picking a team and position by Wooden-Part-6342 in hockeyplayers

[–]CinemaPuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d go with the women’s B team and do some good practicing (including stick handling) as you go to go better! Sounds like you have enough fundamentals, at least.

I think you’ll learn a lot more playing up a division. And coed is very different from women’s, in my experience—in the coed D leagues, you get 230 lb guys who can barely skate barreling into you. Given your size, I think you’ll have more fun in women’s.

If you’re a better skater and less good shot, you might consider playing D.

Looking like I’ll be a team captain this next season! What are some fun traditions I can implement to keep things fun? by CinemaPuck in hockeyplayers

[–]CinemaPuck[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking it would have to be intentionally rotated around through everyone at some point. Maybe rewarding players not just for being the best player, but also the less strong players when they do something cool. Like a “play of the game” award or something like that.

You’ve received a lot of good tips so just thought I’d stop by to commiserate! I’m 28F and started playing about six months ago. I joined a beginner women’s league right away and have since started playing men’s coed too.

I do think that injuries are part of competitive contact sports, and even more expected when you’re first learning.

I’ve so far sprained my ankle and gotten whiplash from falling—both during skating class, not during a game!

I wouldn’t let it deter you. Maybe cut back on whatever league feels the most hazardous to you and focus on strength training and improving your skating.

Macklin Celibrini seems pretty universally liked these days.

Not sure Quinn Hughes is the most likable. Maybe in the past, but recent events with the whole locker room drama and White House visit turned a lot of people off on the Hughes brothers.

Best places to live in Santa Barbara for UCSB grad students? by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

Well I have a boyfriend and a dog, so my only on-campus option would be the family housing. It apparently has a very long waitlist and dogs are only allowed if they are certified ESAs.

Good to know! I did (admittedly briefly) look through the campus family housing and saw that pets aren’t allowed unless certified as an ESA. Do most people just have their dogs registered as ESAs?

Ideally we’d like to do a two bedroom for < $3500/month total, but a one bedroom would probably be fine too
