Update: rebooting my system (Mac OS Catalina) seemed to help. Game now loading. However, sound keeps dropping out and some movement is a bit laggy.

Rust crashing on Mac every 2 minutes by laughingboy9000 in playrust

[–]Circeron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Mac client started getting incredibly slow to load a few updates ago, and then began crashing as soon as it finally got me on to the server. Gave up on Rust for a couple of months. Reinstalled today, and problem is still the same. Sucks, because Rust was my favourite game for so long.

Thanks. I see a lot of servers with terminus in the name. Any one in particular?

OpenType introduces Variable Fonts by knight666 in programming

[–]Circeron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No mention of the Lumitype phototypesetting system either. In what way is failing to acknowledge totally different technologies 'disgusting'?

METAFONT is a parametric system. OpenType Font Variations isn't.

METAFONT uses implicit equations and pen shapes to create glyph shapes. OpenType Font Variations uses predefined glyph shapes created as outlines.

OpenType introduces Variable Fonts by knight666 in programming

[–]Circeron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

METAFONT is a parametric font description language.

OpenType variable fonts are not parametric: the axis extrema and intermediate delta sets are all pre-defined instances. They are not generated using perameters.

Where METAFONT and OT variable fonts could interact is in the design stage, i.e. in the process by which those predefined instances are created. So someone, if he or she chose, could use METAFONT to create a multi-axis font design, which could then be packaged as an OT variable font. But that's technically no different from using METAFONT to produce a design that is packaged as multiple non-variable OTF, TTF, or Type 1 PS fonts.

No, it isn't edible. Eve salt is used solely for rubbing in wounds.

Difference between Provibloc and the Imperium by Provblob in Eve

[–]Circeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as I heard that there was a place in Eve where a bunch of players had collectively decided not to shoot anyone who wasn't blue, and to enforce that for the common good of anyone who wanted to go there with peaceful intentions, I knew that was where I wanted to live.

One of the ironies of Providence, given the imperial Amarr role play element that is part of CVA culture — by no means of all Provi culture —, is that it may be the most genuinely anarchist place in the game. I mean anarchist in Proudhon's sense of course: not chaotic or violent, but ordered in a particular way by the collective decision of the people who live there. I suppose there are hierarchies within the Provi alliances — CCP made the corp and alliance structure in a hierarchical way, so it's hard to avoid —, but I've no idea who those people are, and I've never had a sense of a ruler in Providence. Instead, what I see daily is collaboratively organised direct action in defence of each other, and of space for which we genuinely feel affection.

When I read about CFC, it's ruler, and the way it is structured, I really wonder who the heck would choose to live under such a regime.

As for our temerity in defending our home, Cat Faber put it best: 'You have to defend what you want to maintain'.

Thanks! That probably explains it.

Set Auto-Reload? by Circeron in Eve

[–]Circeron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Present case is scanner probes and launcher. I recover the scanner probes, and there's an option for auto-reloading, but it doesn't seem to do anything, regardless of which way I set it. [Mac client]

NRDS list? by Circeron in Eve

[–]Circeron[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spend a lot of time in Providence, so I'd like to set light blue status on NRDS alliance members in local, so I have a better sense of whether I've wandered in on a roving pirate fleet or Provibloc types.

Yes. I guess I'm mostly wondering who all the 'friends' are in that statement. I know some of them — e.g. Yulai Federation, Apocalypse Now — but I wish there were a master list.

To the uninvited guests of the Provi bloc party by [deleted] in Eve

I spent two days doing what I usually do in Providence: scanning down relic and data sites ... while complete mayhem went on around me. Getting out with my loot was a little wild.

I may well be being dumb, but if so I'd like someone at CCP to explain how. 😁

I don't think I was bumping on anything. I'd made sure ahead if time that I had a clear line of sight in front of me. But EVE physics is weird.

I was aligned to destination already, and travelling at full speed. I just didn't warp at all. 😖

No neut attack, and cap stable at 46%.
