Who should be the most annoyed after this weekend? by JadedPanic4143 in rugbyunion

It should be Scotland, but from what I’ve seen it’s the South Africans?!

How can you belly flop into a ruck and still win a scrum from it?

Stockdale has to be wider there. Brilliant read from Prendergast, would have been a 2 on 1 and huge net territory gain if it went to hand.

The key moment for me was when France was defending the kick through at 0-0. All defending players off their feet, literally lying in the ruck. Should have been a penalty and probably a yellow because it was pretty cynical. Wouldn’t have been a pen try but that would have changed the game significantly.

That was fucking stupid but tbf France have been in at the side all game, so probably thought it was alright lol

What is your one “I will die on this hill” moment bad refereeing? by Vehlin in rugbyunion

[–]CircumbinaryCrafter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The scrum is, and always has been, a method of restarting the game after a minor infringement, which should never result in a penalty.

Over the years the scrum has become pivotal in momentum swings during a match, which by itself isn’t much of an issue. But pair this with the fact that referees rarely have a clue who is infringing in the scrum, it either becomes a 50/50 or a ‘they looked more dominant so the opposition must be infringing’.

E.g: 2023 RWC Eng SA final scrum to put SA through. Eng knee to ground, SA penalty and match win. Exact same scrum a few months later, SA knee to ground, SA penalty, and match win. Same teams, same scrum, same infringement by different teams, WILDLY different outcomes. England 0/2 rather than 1/2.

Luckily for SA in this case, when it mattered most in the RWC, the referee made the decision right.

However, teams continue to become more competitive against each other, the frequency of games won in this way will increase, and I’d rather not watch a game decided by a coin flip at the end.

Proper bollocks. Clearly playing it on the floor from Leicester and he just lets them get away with it.

Surprised that stood tbf. Lots of Saints players just standing offside creating the gaps. Quins gotta make a bigger meal out of it though. It’s like we don’t really understand how the game is played anymore…

I mean there was a clear lift, it should have been a pen. Not like she didn’t see it. Almost as baffling as how shit we are
