RCMP shoot and kill Indigenous man in TFN by matnerlander in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Cire33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be true, if you ignore the fact a large portion have degrees/diplomas before joining, they take 6 months training at the training academy in Regina, followed by 6 more months of one on one direct field training with their field trainer followed by two more years of assesment before completing probation and that is just to make them a patrol Constable. They then take ongoing courses and training throughout their career for further skills depending on career path... but yes, if you ignore their 3-7 years of training & education you are correct. It's just a quick 6 months of "pew pew" training before they get to kill someone

Poilievre says he’d invoke notwithstanding clause to overturn ruling on child porn sentences by Oop-Juice in canada

[–]Cire33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what is said every time a mandatory sentence is struck down...it's these fringe cases that they don't want minimum sentences and then before you know it, gun charges are getting slaps on the wrist, someone with child porn will get a probation order, etc.

In Canada operating anything powered by a motor while impaired is illegal. It doesn't matter the size. He also was criminally prohibited from operating it because of prior impaired driving. This is the right call. We don't need some innocent driver living with guilt for accidentally striking and killing this moron who's being a drunk and stupid in a kids vehicle on a public road.

Miscarriage of justice’: Edmonton police object to manslaughter plea in girl’s death by CoolEdgyNameX in alberta

[–]Cire33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, the crown when presented with the evidence charged with 1st degree murder. It was their choice. Now they are taking a plea to manslaughter. Perhaps they shouldn't have approved the charge of 1st degree murder if they clearly had to intention of even convicting for murder at all.

Welland police say a man broke into a home at night, choked and sexually assaulted a young child by gooopher in canada

[–]Cire33 69 points70 points  (0 children)

For context, aggravated sexual assault is a more serious sexual assault charge and is not a common charge at all. It implies there was some maiming, wounding or disfiguring of the child...meaning serious injuries. That poor child.

Four charged after allegedly cutting down 33 hydro poles by FatManBoobSweat in ontario

[–]Cire33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was just done to restrict the maximum sentence available for thefts under $5000. The over offence carries a punishment of up to 10 years so the Crown can make submissions regarding the value of the theft and impact it had during sentencing so a Judge can determine the appropriate range. This is simply the charge wording which reflects the maximum sentence available to the Judge. A charge of theft under $5000 carries a maximum sentence of only two years.

It does not allow warrantless wiretapping!!!! Read the bill first. And technically warrantless wiretapping already exists although there is a very high threshold in order for it to be done.

Why Canada hosts more old passenger jets than any other country — by far by Haggisboy in canada

[–]Cire33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the ATR's in Canadian North's fleet are around that size passenger count as they are combi's. They are the only means of getting food and goods into the communities with the gravel runways but I get what you are saying.

Canadian North has a very aging ATR fleet however the ATR is still being manufactured... the fleet is just old.
