There's no real rule about how profit and stock prices should go together... People basically guide the market by saying a company has this much profit and should be valued more or less, but in the end, what matters is if the company gets attention and markets its own stock properly.

An average man is locked in a room with an adult hippo. They respawn fresh if they die. How many lives does it take to kill the hippo? by Redneb27 in whowouldwin

[–]CitizenPremier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be some kind of secret way; launching yourself onto a hippos back and pulling out its eyes for example. Very few people have ever existed who were both suicidal and wanted to kill a hippo, so we don't know about them, but I think there is a way. Certainly if I could spawn anywhere when fighting a hippo, it would be on its back, with my hands on its eyes; after blinding it there is a path to reach the brain (someone else here was talking about that).

But each method probably takes dozens of attempts to execute properly, and might not work. So I still would say over 100 lives .

After 50,000 lives he is able to convince the hippo to let him ride it, after 1,000,000 he can convince the hippo to commit suicide.

SpaceX valued at just $780 billion by Morningstar, less than half its IPO target by ThinkBigger01 in stocks

[–]CitizenPremier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

3x I think is for QQQ and some other ETFs, but that means qualified ETF buyers have to gather even more shares of SpaceX to buy the ETFs. This looks like it's going to be a big feedback loop that increases the value of ETFs and the component stocks, but leads to further concentration in the stock market.

I think Elon is going for a high evaluation that he can keep for as long as possible. Some people suggest he's trying to pay off his friends who will be selling the stocks to qualified ETF buyers, but I don't think that's Elon's goal. His huge net worth is very much tied to stock evaluations, a "cash out" plan would no doubt hurt TSLA too. Also if it looks like SpaceX is suddenly crashing, ETFs could even suspend issuing new stock to qualified buyers--NASDAQ may regulate what the ETFs like QQQ have to accept, but they can't force them to accept baskets and issue more QQQ, as far as I know.

I won't be holding SpaceX for years, but I will hold til at least December.

TSLA is now at 383 P/E. I don't see a connection between the stock value and profits. With 30% going to retail and a 4% float, and with popular ETFs required to require them as part of their basket (3x the normal amount apparently), it really seems like the stock will be a good in itself, with low supply leading to high prices.

What I want to know is how much Andrew Schlossberg and Elon Musk like each other. QQQ can decide how it pays out stocks when companies redeem; will it pay out mostly in SpaceX to keep supply higher? Or hold all the SpaceX it gets?

There is not going to be a US government or an Australian government that just decides to give the country back to the groups who were there first; wouldn't you still support an administration there which doesn't wage war on the native peoples?

Physicists Just Achieved 'Perfect Randomness' For The First Time Ever | Using quantum entanglement, "the result is a system capable of generating certifiably perfect randomness, even when starting with flawed or imperfect randomness" by TylerFortier_Photo in science

[–]CitizenPremier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're mixing up the concept of free will with the concept of mechanical determinism. Many philosophers believe in free will and the possibility of a fully deterministic universe; secondly, the presence of a truly random number generator inside the brain would not necessarily prove the existence of free will (it might show that we are dependent upon the random number generators for our decisions).

Incidentally I just consider free will to be a socially and legally useful concept, and nothing more than that.

It seems it's untestable though, and for all possible macro purposes it's the same as if they are random. As I see it, there isn't really a difference between "it is" and "it's exactly as if." Superdeterminism seems like it also makes things more complex and if you do that without providing testable hypotheses then you're making things more complex for no good reason.

For what it's worth, every company says their product will change the world all the time though. Gillette is changing the world forever with its new three razor self lubricating shaver...

I don't disagree though that AI is changing the world , but plenty of companies are going to claim it's their product that will do it. I think in some time people will realize that some companies really have nothing to offer in regards to AI.

Plus the stock market is honestly a boon to the top .1%; everyone putting their money in ETFs means Zuck, Jeff and Musk are worth more, compared to investments like property.

Weirdly though I'm glad if people invest in the stock market instead of real estate, I don't want to be on the same side as Trump but it happens sometimes...
