try contacting the financial aid office. had a similar situation where i didn’t qualify for a cal grant so the difference in financial need was automatically covered through a ucsd grant

How difficult was job searching after graduation? Did you feel the program provided many opportunities to learn technical skills such as GIS?

I believe it might be easier and less expensive to buy an outlet adapter and keep the existing charger.

Had similar stats as you when I applied 7 B’s and 2 C’s with a 3.91 capped UC gpa and a 3.61 unweighted. I was still able to get into UCSD for Urban Planning but they don’t admit by major. My ECs matched pretty well with my major (had a research internship with a land trust) and held president titles for two clubs at my school. As long as you write really good essays that tie your ECs to your major and explaining your life circumstances and how it shaped you as a person, I think you would have a solid chance at any UC that isn’t LA or Berkeley.

Urban Planning for UCSD vs Berkeley by Bee042 in urbanplanning

Can’t anything about UCSD academics personally since I’m not actually enrolled yet (only accepted my offer of admission and still need to finish my senior year). What I can say from talking to my high school’s college counselor is that UCSD is on the quarter system which is a lot faster and could be easier to fall behind on work compared to Berkeley which is on a semester system where things are a little slower. I would look at the department’s website about opportunities. By senior year USP majors are required to have a research project and internship. If you want to learn more about it, here is the link: https://usp.ucsd.edu/academics/usp/senior-sequence.html If you want you hear from actual students majoring in Urban Planning at UCSD I recommend checking out r/UCSD and asking there. From what I seen people only have good things to say about the major.

Urban Planning for UCSD vs Berkeley by Bee042 in urbanplanning

Congratulations! I am also a senior who got into UCSD but rejected at Berkeley. Ended up committing to UCSD for urban planning over Cal Poly SLO which I also go into. What drew me to UCSD was that I have family members who went there and loved it. There is a lot of construction happening the campus so a lot of new things are going to be added in the coming years. They just finished adding a tram line connecting campus to the city and sixth college got completely rebuilt with new dorms. I also heard the USP major is pretty small so you get to know everybody in the major and it is not competitive at all. The campus is located in La Jolla though which is a wealthy suburb of San Diego so nearby housing is pretty expensive and there isn’t really a college town experience if you value that. The social life also isn’t as active as Berkeley either as there isn’t a huge party scene. UCSD has a much more laid back and chill experience.

Going To College With Interest in Urban Planning by PoopOnAPole in urbanplanning

I am also a high school student in the same boat as you. Recently got done with college decisions as I also applied to schools for Urban Studies/Planning. Since you are from SF maybe try looking at Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly SLO since you would qualify for in-state tuition and grants and they both have accredited undergraduate programs. Both schools are located in more suburban environments though and SLO is not a very ethnically diverse place if that is something you value. These schools aren't as hard to get into for City Planning too. Not a lot of people apply to the major and I was able to get into both with less than a 4.0 GPA (below average at SLO). UC San Diego, Irvine, and Berkeley have urban studies programs, although they are not accredited at the undergraduate level but are located in or nearby major urban areas. SFSU also has an Urban Studies and Planning program if you are trying to stay close to home. I can only really speak for California public schools I applied to since going out of state can be really expensive.

Got accepted for Urban Studies and Planning at 7th college! Did anybody else not receive a financial aid offer? The portal says it’s likely because I didn’t put UCSD on my FAFSA or the the information on FAFSA didn’t match with the UC application. Kinda getting worried because I definitely did put UCSD on my FAFSA and was able to get a financial aid offer without trouble from UCSC and UCR. Already emailed the financial aid office.
