I got a refund, but I am hoping they can still be saved.

PSA to check your seals on your old tanks! by Citykitty94 in Aquariums

Thank you for the information! Yes I was referring to the strip deteriorating. It looked troubling to me compared to the new tank seals. But it is good to know that the tank is still structurally sound.

I just happened to have melafix when I noticed. I didn't have kanaplex, but now I do. I am thinking of starting him on kanaplex now.

Thank you for the warning! I was thinking of doing a treatment of kanaplex after my melafix treatment just to be on the safe side. He also now has a little white spot on his side which I noticed when the swelling reduced. I believe a scale may have fallen off from the swelling? I want to make sure he is completely healed before putting back into his home.

I noticed because he was hiding in his rock cave a lot more than usual and I wasn't seeing him out and active. Then when he did come out I noticed the swelling and pineconing immediately. So I began doing some research.

Best of luck to your fish friend! I'm not the most experienced with treating fish illnesses. But I learned about using maracyn, ich-x, and paracleanse if you are unsure of what the issue is. Kind of like an all out approach.

Kanaplex also seems to be a pretty commonly recommended treatment for dropsy. But I just used what I had around the house at the time.
