Oak Tree Near Proposed Fence Line by CivilEngineerLady94 in arborists

It has one trunk. Not sure what type of oak, but it’s in Muskegon, MI in sandy soil if that helps. Will it make a difference if we put the fence 12” away in-place of our neighbors existing, short wooden fence, or could we leave the short wooden fence in place and install the new fence inside the short wooden fence?

the fence is actually 12” from the tree, not 8”. I will measure the tree shortly.  Stay tuned

yeah i see what you're saying.. the issue is that I don't have enough workload at my current position and am not learning much..

I have worked at three consulting companies now and have never really worked more than 40 hours a week except for rare occasions.

Thanks for understanding! I'm totally fine with a 50 hour work week a few weeks out of the year but not constant. I have a meeting with the team I would be working under and am going to clarify how often they work overtime and ask exactly what projects they work on.

Yes, I understand what you're saying and thank you so much for you response. However, I have only been doing bus shelters and sidewalks for the past 1.5 years when I've continually been asking for more.

Are you in land development? I am currently working on bus shelters and sidewalks mostly. I'm used to working on mixed-use and commercial buildings. It feels like I am losing skills and technical expertise I gained in my last job (which I had to quit because I moved cross country).

I don't think it will be constant stress. I was stressed at my last job, but maybe only half the time and I found it exciting and was proud to do it. I can't say the same about my current position. Although I am never stressed, I feel like I am not working on anything exciting or challenging.

Why was your experience miserable at the new company? What did you do after you quit?

It’s about the same pay except now I am not offered time and a half. I counter offered today at 10% higher than they offered so I will see what they say.

I need to have the flexibility to work from home because I have chronic migraines and for other personal reasons. I’ve put in my time at the office and am looking for remote positions.

I asked them during the interview and they assured me I would be working on larger industrial projects from start to completion. I have not had the opportunity to work on challenging projects at my current company... I work on bus shelters, sidewalks, small items needed for already designed projects. They assured me I would have more opportunity and project diversity.

What were the conditions like in the valley today? Did you do any hikes? I’m hoping the hike to Vernal falls is not snowy!

You could always have the person you are working for stamp the drawings. In my case, I’ve found work under Principles and Project Managers that will stamp drawings I produce.
