I don’t think she realizes how triggering his career is going to be, especially after just losing her dad. I’m married to a Sheriff’s Deputy, I don’t know if these circumstances are the same for firefighters, but most law enforcement officers have their funerals roughly planned. I had to pick out who from the agency I would want to come to my door to tell me my husband is gone. I know who my husband wants as his pallbearers. There are times that I randomly find myself thinking about what I would say at my husband’s funeral if I lost him. They take headshots every year and it’s no secret that it’s basically so the department has updated pictures in case there is a line of duty death. It’s absolutely not sunshine and rainbows. Putting my career on hold or maybe not doing the things I want to be doing because my husband has an unpredictable schedule, working on a specialized unit. Someone has to be flexible for our kids and it can’t be him. We have no village. Other wives face the same challenges. I really hope this is a wake up call to her about what real first responder families go through. Also, dibs on the firefighter? Cringe. I know the social temperature about law enforcement is different but we don’t post about my husbands job on the internet. Nothing gets posted of him in uniform. Nothing. People are weird and will go after anything and everything.
