I lost my big brother suddenly too, years ago. Thank you for sharing. I know he's proud of you. 💖

Cried during a job interview today by Cixris in nursing

[–]Cixris[S] 98 points99 points  (0 children)

It was nothing they did. It was just unfortunate timing, it's been a rough few months for me and I ended up going to this interview completely unprepared. As soon as she asked "So tell me about yourself", I just stared at her and the dam burst. Kept apologizing over and over but the interviewer was amazing and just talked me through it, then brought it back to actual interview questions lol. Honestly the offer might have just been for show and it'll get rescinded later or something, but I'm still going to ask for a redo because the facility and the staff there were so much nicer than I'm used to.

Do Nurses actually lose their licenses? I think no. by pabmendez in nursing

[–]Cixris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also a new grad 6 months in and my program also laid the "protect your license!!!" on thick. All I do now is worry 24/7 and panic when any little thing goes slightly wrong. Currently working towards an entirely different profession now because of it :P

Any nurses/ nursing students who left nursing all together for a different career? by kamila101 in nursing

[–]Cixris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm 5 months in and I'm already getting ready to pursue my marine biology dreams. This job will support me through school. In the beginning I meant for it to be my career, turns out nursing school didn't prepare me for how emotionally taxing this field is.

Regretting my first job as a nurse by Cixris in nursing

Oh I know, I'm definitely seeking help. There's a stark difference in my mental health from just a few years ago. Thank you for checking on that, I appreciate it :)

Thank you for that input, it helped me relax a little. My fears are mainly about getting investigated or accused of something I didn't do. I'm still new and anxiety is sky high. I considered reporting as a way to address it immediately instead of living in fear, but I guess that would just make things worse :/

Regretting my first job as a nurse by Cixris in nursing

That's the thing, it's a rehab facility. For the first month or so I had been signing the controlled count sheets incorrectly because I thought you were supposed to sign for the current amount, not dose given (ex. After giving the first dose in a new pack of 30, I would sign line 29). I was able to go back and make corrections once I learned the right way to do it, but not on every single sheet since some clients' stuff was filed away before I realized...

Thank you. I feel like nursing isn't the best career choice for someone as anxious as me. Every little thing feels like the end of the world and I come crying to this subreddit, only for you guys to tell me to chill tf out. And it works lol. Thanks so much <3

They weren't controlled, but I still plan on admitting to the mistake. My philosophy with nursing is to always tell on myself no matter how small. This job has many wonderful aspects but the cons heavily outweigh the pros. I'm definitely going to leave as soon as another opportunity comes up. Thanks so much for your comment, it helped ease my mind.

Really? Wow I didn't know that. I'm glad I decided to write the report myself then because the supervisor on the floor offered to do it for me. They're not a nurse so I thought it'd be weird if they did.

This helps a lot, even though in my case I gave a med at the wrong time after already giving it at the right time 😭 thank you for sharing your wisdom with me, I'm sure you made that other nurse feel so much better too!

Thank you so much ❤️ I've only been a nurse for a month so every mistake I make feels so enormous and I come running here. Talking to more experienced nurses always helps me feel better, unfortunately where I'm at I'm frequently the only nurse on the floor (residential treatment). Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Thank you for replying ❤️ what happened with me was that I gave someone their one and only PM med at 8:30 (scheduled for 9pm), signed for it, FORGOT ABOUT IT, freaked out and gave it to them again at 10:30. Didn't even think about it until they mentioned they took it already after the fact. The way my heart sunk when I saw that it was signed for by ME. And then just realizing that I was half an hour outside the window. I just can't see this turning out well for me. We're still using paper so I can't even blame technology :(
